මධ්‍යම කඳුකරයේ බටහිර බෑවුම් ප්‍රදේශවලට අද (20) අලුයම සිට ඇදහැලෙන ධාරානිපාත වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන් මහවැලි ගඟ සහ අතු ගංගා පිටාර ගැලීම නිසා නාවලපිටිය සහ බගවන්තලාව ප්‍රදේශවල නිවාස රැසක් ජලයෙන් යටවී තිබේ.

නාවලපිටිය පස්බාගේ කෝරලේ ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කොට්ඨාසයට ඇදහැලෙන අධික වර්ෂාපතනයත් සමඟ මහවැලි ගඟ පිටාර ගැලීම හේතුවෙන් පහත්බිම්වල පිහිටි නිවාස රැසක් ජලයෙන් යටවී ඇත.

මේ හේතුවෙන් පවුල් 100කට ආසන්න පිරිසක් මේ වන විට අවතැන්ව සිටින බව පස්බාගේ කෝරලේ ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ නිලධාරියෙකු තහවුරු කළේය.

විශේෂයෙන්ම නාවලපිටිය කිතුල්කොටේ, ලබුවැල්කොටුව සහ ජයසුන්දරඕවිට ඇතුළු පහත්බිම් ප්‍රදේශ කිහිපයක් මෙලෙස ජලයෙන් යටවී ඇත.

මේ අතර, කෙසෙල්ගමු ඔයට ජලය ගලා බසින කොටියාගල ඔය පිටාර ගැලීම හේතුවෙන් බගවන්තලාව කොටියාගල වතුයායේ පහළ කොටසේ පිහිටි වතු නිවාස රැසක් ද අද උදෑසන ජලයෙන් යටවී තිබේ.

පවතින අධික වර්ෂාවත් සමඟ මධ්‍යම කඳුකර මාර්ගවල රථවාහන ගමනාගමනයට බාධා එල්ල වී ඇති අතර, දැඩි මීදුම් තත්ත්වයක් ද පවතින බැවින් කඳුකර මාර්ග භාවිත කරන රියදුරන් දැඩි විමසිල්ලෙන් හා සැලකිල්ලෙන් යුතුව රිය ධාවනය කළ යුතු බව හැටන් පොලිසිය දැනුම් දෙයි.

Severe Flooding Hits Naavalapitiya and Bagawanthalawa Due to Heavy Rains

Heavy rain that started in the early hours today (20) across the western slopes of the Central Highlands has resulted in severe flooding in several homes in Naavalapitiya and Bagawanthalawa, particularly due to the overflowing of the Mahaweli River and the Athuganga.

The overflowing of the Mahaweli River, triggered by excessive rainfall in the Pasbaage Korale region, has submerged numerous houses located in low-lying areas. This has left around 100 families displaced, as confirmed by an official from the Pasbaage Korale Divisional Secretariat.

Areas particularly affected include the lowlands of Naavalapitiya, with Kitulkote, Labuwalkotuwa, and Jayasundaraovi among the worst-hit regions.

Additionally, rising water levels along the Keselgamu Oya have caused flooding in several houses located in the lower portion of the Kottiyagala estate in Bagawanthalawa since this morning.

Due to the continuing heavy rainfall, traffic flow on the hilly routes of the Central Highlands has been disrupted. The Hatton police have advised drivers using these roads to exercise extreme caution due to prevailing dense fog conditions.
