Parliamentary Session to Feature Significant Amendments and Financial Provisions
During the upcoming parliamentary week scheduled from September 22 to 25, several amendments to proposed legislation will be discussed. This announcement was made by Parliament Secretary General Kushani Rohaandeera.
The decision stemmed from a meeting of the Parliamentary Business Committee chaired by Deputy Speaker Dr. Risath Bathiudeen.
Specifically, the "Export Agriculture Promotion (Amendment) Bill," originally set for debate on Tuesday, September 22, from 11:30 AM to 5:00 PM, will now be addressed on Wednesday, September 23, in the same time slot. Additionally, it was decided not to present the "Sri Lanka Institute of Professional Media Practitioners Bill" for its second reading on that day as previously planned.
In another development, a financial proposal amounting to 17.213 million rupees aimed at providing relief for electricity bills will be submitted to Parliament on September 22, with plans for approval on the 23rd.
This supplementary proposal will be funded through identified budget allocations that are recognized as non-expendable until the end of the fiscal year. Consequently, these allocations will not impact the total government expenditure limits or the maximum borrowing thresholds already established, according to the Secretary General.
Nevertheless, parliamentary activities on September 24 and 25 are set to proceed as scheduled without any changes.
