ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පුද්ගල නිදහස, නීතියේ ආධිපත්‍යය සහ ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදී පාලන තන්ත්‍රයේ පවතින තුලනය සහ පාලනය බරපතළ තර්ජනයකට ලක්ව ඇති බව බහුජන බලය සංවිධානයේ කැඳවුම්කරු මිලින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා ජිනීවාහිදී ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මානව හිමිකම් කවුන්සිල සැසිවාරය අමතමින් ඒ මහතා පෙන්වා දුන්නේ, විධායකයේ අත්තනෝමතික ක්‍රියාකලාපය හේතුවෙන් ශ්‍රී ලංකා ජනරජයේ පදනම ක්‍රමයෙන් දුර්වල වෙමින් පවතින බවයි.

මෙහිදී වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දැක්වූ මිලින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා, මෙරට තුළ දේශපාලන පළිගැනීම් සහ තෝරාගත් පුද්ගලයන් ඉලක්ක කර ගනිමින් නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක කිරීමේ ප්‍රවණතාවක් පවතින බව අවධාරණය කළේය.

නාමල් රාජපක්ෂ වැනි විපක්ෂයේ දේශපාලනඥයන් ඉලක්ක කර ගනිමින් සිදුකරන අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීම් සහ හිටපු රාජ්‍ය බුද්ධි සේවයේ අධ්‍යක්ෂ සුරේෂ් සාලේ මහතා දිගින් දිගටම රඳවා තබා ගැනීම හරහා අධිකරණ ක්‍රියාවලියේ සහ නීතිමය පටිපාටියේ පවතින බරපතළ දුර්වලතා මතු වන බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

එසේම, 22 වැනි ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථා සංශෝධනය මගින් විනිසුරුවරුන්ගේ විශ්‍රාම යන වයස වෙනස් කිරීම හරහා අධිකරණයේ ස්වාධීනත්වයට බලපෑම් එල්ල වී ඇති බවත්, එමගින් විධායකයට අධිකරණ පරිපාලනය කෙරෙහි අනවශ්‍ය බලයක් ලැබී ඇති බවත් ඔහු සඳහන් කළේය.

මෙම තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ විශේෂ නියෝජිතයන් සහ ශ්‍රී ලංකා නීතිඥ සංගමය පවා අනතුරු අඟවා ඇති බව ඔහු සිහිපත් කළේය.

සමාජ මාධ්‍ය ක්‍රියාකාරීන් සහ මාධ්‍යවේදීන් ඉලක්ක කර ගනිමින් අදහස් ප්‍රකාශ කිරීමේ නිදහස සීමා කිරීමට රජය උත්සාහ දරන බවත්, දූෂණ විරෝධී පනතේ ඇතැම් සංශෝධන හරහා ඇප ලබාදීමේ ක්‍රියාවලිය දැඩි කර පුද්ගලයන් දීර්ඝ කාලයක් රඳවා තබා ගැනීමට අවස්ථාව සලසා ඇති බවත් මිලින්ද රාජපක්ෂ මහතා මෙහිදී චෝදනා කළේය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පවතින මෙම මානව හිමිකම් සහ ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදී පසුබෑම පිළිබඳව දැඩි අවධානයෙන් පසුවන ලෙසත්, ඒ සම්බන්ධයෙන් ක්‍රියාකාරී මැදිහත්වීමක් සිදුකරන ලෙසත් ඔහු එක්සත් ජාතීන්ගේ මානව හිමිකම් කවුන්සිලයෙන් සහ මහා කොමසාරිස්වරයාගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියේය.

Sri Lanka's Democracy and Human Rights Under Severe Threat, Warns Milinda Rajapaksha in Geneva

Milinda Rajapaksha, the coordinator of the Collective of the People’s Power, delivered a stark warning in Geneva, stating that individual freedoms, the rule of law, and democratic governance in Sri Lanka are under serious threat.

Addressing the United Nations Human Rights Council, he emphasized that the executive's arbitrary actions have been gradually weakening the foundation of the Sri Lankan Republic.

Rajapaksha further highlighted the alarming trend of political reprisals within the country, where law enforcement appears to be increasingly targeting selected individuals.

He pointed to the arrest of opposition politicians, such as Namal Rajapaksha, and the continued detention of former Director of State Intelligence, Suresh Saleh, as evidence of significant weaknesses in judicial processes and legal frameworks.

The recent constitutional amendment, which alters the retirement age for judges, has reportedly undermined judicial independence, granting the executive unnecessary influence over the judiciary, he noted.

He reminded attendees that even representatives from the United Nations and the Bar Association of Sri Lanka had raised alarms regarding these conditions.

Rajapaksha accused the government of attempting to restrict freedom of expression, particularly targeting social media activists and journalists. He claimed that recent amendments to anti-corruption legislation have tightened bail procedures, allowing for prolonged detentions of individuals.

He called upon the United Nations Human Rights Council and the High Commissioner to pay close attention to the deteriorating human rights and democratic situation in Sri Lanka and urged them to take proactive measures to address these concerns.
