කොළ පැහැති අංක තහඩු සහිත විදුලි වාහන මාර්ගස්ථ රථවාහන පොලිසිය විසින් පරීක්ෂාවට ලක් කිරීම සහ ඒ පිළිබඳව ප්‍රශ්න කිරීම් වාර්තා වීම හේතුවෙන් දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව මෙම නිල නිවේදනය නිකුත් කර තිබේ.

Motor Vehicle Authority Confirms Legality of Green Number Plates for Electric Vehicles

The Department of Motor Traffic has clarified that green number plates issued for electric vehicles are legally valid. This announcement comes in response to concerns raised among vehicle owners regarding the status of these distinctive plates.

The Commissioner General of Motor Vehicles emphasized that electric vehicles are indeed entitled to display the green number plates without any legal repercussions for their owners. He also confirmed that measures are being implemented to ensure all electric vehicles will receive these plates moving forward.

Meanwhile, the existing system will continue to issue white and yellow number plates for all other categories of vehicles. This decision aims to maintain clarity and consistency in vehicle identification.

The department's official statement was prompted by instances where electric vehicles with green number plates were subjected to inspections by traffic police, leading to inquiries and reports. This move seeks to alleviate any confusion and reassure electric vehicle owners of their legal status.
