Iran's Revolutionary Guards Report Major Explosions Following Collision of Oil Tankers in Gulf

Three oil tankers attempting to navigate an unauthorized maritime route south of the Hormuz Strait have collided, resulting in significant explosions and fires, according to Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps.

The naval division of the Revolutionary Guards disclosed that crew members abandoned the affected vessels after the explosions. Currently, these tankers are drifting in southern waters.

The oil tankers were reportedly trying to exit the strategic Strait of Hormuz using an illegal southern sea route while disabling their radar and navigation systems. Iranian military officials confirmed that these vessels had crashed due to ignoring warnings issued by the Iranian Navy regarding the perilous conditions of the unauthorized maritime path.

Officials reminded that the Navy had previously warned about the existence of unexploded ordnance in the waterway related to unauthorized naval routes, emphasizing that shipowners bear full responsibility for any accidents involving their vessels and crews.

In a call to the international maritime community, Iran urged vigilance against misinformation in social media and online platforms regarding the removal of unexploded ordnance from the Strait of Hormuz.

Brigadier General Hossein Muhebbi, spokesperson for the Revolutionary Guards, asserted that the real power in the Hormuz Strait is determined in the air, on land, and at sea, not in media war rooms or through social networks.

He recalled Britain’s heavy embarrassment during the 1956 Suez Crisis and warned that any provocative actions violating the law in the Hormuz region would prompt a robust reaction.

Additionally, Brigadier General Mohammad Akraminia stated that the Hormuz Strait is currently under complete strategic control of the Iranian armed forces, and that it will remain closed to international maritime navigation until Iran's conditions are fully met.
