නෝර්වුඩ් ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ අස්වැසුම ප්‍රතිලාභ වංචනික ලෙස තම නමට සහ තම ඥාතීන්ගේ නමට ලබා ගත් එම කාර්යාලයේ සේවය කරන සේවකයින් රැසක් විමර්ෂණයක් ආරම්භ කිරිමට ප්‍රථම ස්වේච්ඡාවෙන් ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරයා හමුවේ වංචාවක් සිදු කල බවට පිලිගෙන ඇත.
එම කාර්යාලයේ විවිධ අංශවල සේවය කරන සේවකයින් රැසක් 2023 වසරේ සිට අස්වැසුම මුදල් ඔවුන්ගේ නම්වලට සහ ඔවුන්ගේ ලගම ඥාතීන්ගේ නම්වලට ලබා ගෙන ඇති බවට නෝර්වුඩ් ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ සිදු වී ඇති අස්වැසුම මුදල් වංචාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් සිදු කරන විමර්ෂණ කටයුතු වලදී අනාවරණය විමෙන් පසු එම නිළධාරින්ගේ නාම ලේඛනයක් ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරයා විසින් නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම්වරිය වෙත ලිඛිතව යොමු කර ඇත.
ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරයා විසින් එම නාම ලේඛණය දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම්වරිය වෙත යොමු කිරිමෙන් පසු එම ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ සේවය කරන සංවර්ධන නිළධාරින්, සමෘද්ධි නිළධාරින් ඇතුලු තවත් අංශ කිහිපයක සේවය කරන සේවකයින් ගණනාවක් තමන් සිදුකල වංචාව සම්බන්ධයෙන් ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම්වරයා හමුවේ පවසා ඇත.
නෝර්වුඩ් ප්‍රාදේශීය ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේ සිදු වී ඇති අස්වැසුම මුදල් වංචාව රු.කෝටි 6කට ආසන්න නිසා එහි ඉදිරි විමර්ෂණ කටයුතු සිදු කිරිමට හැටන් මහේස්ත්‍රාත් අධිකරණය මගින් අපරාධ විමර්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව වෙත යොමු කර ඇත.
එම මුදල් වංචාව සිදු කල අස්වැසුම අංශයේ නිළධාරින් දෙදෙනෙකු තවදුරටත් රක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාර ගතව සිටින අතර, එම නිළදාරින් දෙදෙනා විසින් අස්වැසුම මුදල් බැර කල ඔවුන්ගේ ළගම ඥාතියෙකු ඇතුලු ගුරුවරුන් 6 දෙනෙකු විමර්ෂණ කටයුත්තකට යටත්ව වැඩ තහනමකට ලක් වී ඇත.

Investigation Launched into Fraudulent Benefit Payments at Norwood Divisional Secretariat
Allegations of fraudulent benefit payments at the Norwood Divisional Secretariat have surfaced, leading to an internal investigation after the Divisional Secretary voluntarily admitted to misconduct. This investigation aims to address the claims concerning several employees within the office who allegedly procured these payments under false pretenses.
It has come to light that since the beginning of 2023, numerous staff members from various departments of the Secretariat received funds that were improperly accounted for in their names and the names of their close relatives. Following this revelation during the ongoing inquiry, the list of implicated officials was formally submitted by the Divisional Secretary to the District Secretary of Nuwara Eliya.
After forwarding the names, a number of employees, including development officers and Samurdhi officials from the Secretariat, have approached the Divisional Secretary to disclose their involvement in the fraudulent activities.
The financial discrepancies related to the benefit payments are estimated to be around Rs. 60 million. Consequently, the Hatton Magistrate's Court has directed the Criminal Investigation Department to conduct further investigations into this matter.
As part of the ongoing inquiry, two officials linked to the fraud are currently held in remand custody. Additionally, six individuals, including a close relative of the officers accused of misappropriating the funds, have been subjected to questioning and face restrictions on their work activities.
