Second Attack in Riyadh Airport Claims Life and Leaves Several Injured
In a tragic escalation of violence, one person has lost their life and eleven others have sustained injuries following a second attack at the international airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. This incident, which occurred just two days after a previous severe assault, has been confirmed by local authorities and reported by the BBC.
The assault on Sunday targeted the King Khalid International Airport, setting fire to Terminal 4, which is used for passenger flights. The fatality has been identified as a Pakistani national residing in the area, according to the Saudi Civil Aviation Authority.
Just 24 hours earlier, a brutal attack on the same airport resulted in the deaths of thirteen individuals, with an additional 308 people reported injured.
Following clashes that erupted in February between Israel, the United States, and Iran, this recent string of attacks is believed to be among the most severe assaults on an Arab country in the Gulf region. Citizens from various nations, including Saudi Arabia, Bangladesh, the United States, India, Jordan, Palestine, Syria, Sudan, and Egypt, have lost their lives as a result.
The Yemen-based Iran-aligned Houthi militants have claimed responsibility for these attacks, asserting that they have employed ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones in recent strikes over the past 24 hours. Additionally, they indicated that targeted assaults were also aimed at Dammam airport in eastern Saudi Arabia and oil facilities.
The Houthis have cautioned international airlines and travelers that all airports in Saudi Arabia, except for the holy cities of Mecca and Medina, could become potential targets for further aggression.
Meanwhile, Major General Turki al-Maliki, a spokesperson for the Saudi-led military coalition, reported that their air defense systems successfully intercepted a missile during an attempt on the Riyadh airport. He characterized these attacks against Saudi Arabia as acts of war crimes.
In the United States, President Donald Trump has indicated that a prompt decision will be made regarding military action against the Houthis. Secretary of State Marco Rubio has condemned the attacks with severity.
UK Defense Secretary Ben Wallace also expressed readiness to provide support to Saudi Arabia, while the British Foreign Office has issued warnings to its citizens to avoid travel to certain areas of Saudi Arabia, including regions near the Yemeni border, due to security concerns highlighted in BBC reports.
