All Schools in Sri Lanka to Close Tomorrow Due to Severe Weather Conditions

In response to the adverse weather conditions affecting the island, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has announced the closure of all schools tomorrow, the 27th. This decision aims to ensure the safety of students across the nation.

A special media release issued today, signed by Ministry Secretary Nalaka Kaluwala, clarified that this closure is a temporary measure, limited to tomorrow only.

However, despite the suspension of classes, the practical examinations for subjects related to the General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level will continue as scheduled, without any interruptions, according to the announcement.

The ministry’s decision comes after careful consideration of the ongoing severe weather conditions across various regions, which pose potential risks, including flooding. Regional education authorities and directors had previously been entrusted with the responsibility to make decisions regarding the continuation of school operations based on local circumstances.

Following steps taken by provincial authorities to close schools in several districts, the Ministry of Education has made this announcement, taking into account the overall hazardous weather patterns prevailing throughout the country.
