Minister Urges Grassroots Activism to Address Public Issues

K. D. Lal Kantha, the Minister of Agriculture, Animal Resources, Land, and Irrigation, has emphasized the crucial role of grassroots activists in addressing the challenges faced by the public under the current government. Speaking at a meeting with representatives of the National People’s Power in the Kandy District, he called for direct and active engagement with public officials.

During his address, the minister recalled the commitment of local party members who, despite facing criticism and ridicule from various quarters, worked diligently to inform residents about the National People's Power during the election period.

"Let's establish a branch of the National People's Power in every Grama Seva division. We're creating an institution in Malima. Right now, we are a governing party. Our group in any Grama Seva division must get involved in the governance process. Only then will essential activities be realized from the top down," he stated firmly.

He pointed out that even individuals with a mere three percent voter base could bring issues such as land deeds and other community concerns to the forefront during interactions with these grassroots activists.

The minister highlighted that such problems cannot be resolved in isolation by local activists. Therefore, it is imperative for the relevant parliamentary or public representatives to be directly engaged in these matters. He stressed the need for local activists to possess the direct phone numbers of their representatives. Noting that many in attendance did not have this information, he took the initiative to announce the official contact number of the Member of Parliament overseeing local coordination from the stage.

In conclusion, he urged party members to proactively facilitate connections with accountable officials through these numbers to ensure swift resolutions to public issues.
