Gas Shortage Puts Sri Lankans in Distress Once Again
A notable gas shortage has gripped Sri Lanka, leaving consumers facing significant hardships due to dwindling household gas supplies across the island.
Reports indicate that many areas are experiencing prolonged waits in long queues, attributed to a lack of sufficient gas cylinders available in the market.
Particularly concerning are regions in the Western Province, including Colombo, where supplies from “Laugfs” have been disrupted for about three weeks, and “Litro” gas delivery has also been facing similar issues for roughly a week.
Customers in the outlying provinces have pointed out that "Laugfs" gas has virtually disappeared from the market for nearly a month.
Officials representing Laugfs gas dealers noted that they had not received adequate stock for their outlets during the last three weeks, stressing that they have yet to receive a clear response from the company regarding the ongoing supply issues.
In an inquiry regarding the gas shortage in the market, Litro Chairman Channa Gunawardena acknowledged a brief supply shortage over the past couple of days but expressed confidence that their new gas shipments will rectify the situation. He anticipated that the issue will be resolved and supply will return to normal by today, the 15th.
Additionally, a senior official at Laugfs disclosed the emergence of troubling situations related to the existing gas stock. He specified that new gas shipments are expected to arrive in the country soon, prompting the company to take swift actions to restore its supply network.
The recent economic crisis has already precipitated a severe gas shortage in the country, and a renewed dread of similar disruptions has left consumers anxious and on edge.
