Police Department Secures Housing for Officers in Colombo
In a significant development aimed at addressing the chronic housing shortages faced by police officers in Colombo and its suburbs, the Sri Lanka Police has finalized a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the purchase of 350 residential units from the ‘Harbour View Residencies’ project, spearheaded by the Urban Development Authority.
The agreement was officially signed at the Ministry of Public Security premises in Batharamulla, underlining a commitment to enhance the living conditions for law enforcement personnel. Ravi Senavirathna, Secretary to the Ministry of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs, represented the Sri Lanka Police, while the Urban Development Authority was represented by its Chairman, N.G. Hemachandra.
Located on Cyril C. Pereira Mawatha in Colombo 13, the ‘Harbour View Residencies’ complex comprises 14 floors with a total of 452 residential units. Of these, 350 units have been earmarked for acquisition by the police, a proposal that has received the necessary approvals.
Police Chief Attorney Priyanta Weerasinghe was present during the signing ceremony, along with key figures from the Urban Development Authority, including Housing Director M.H.W.R. Kumar and Legal Division Director D.M. Kirivaththudawa, along with other senior officials.
This housing initiative seeks to significantly enhance the welfare and professional efficiency of officers serving in Western Province, ensuring that they can provide high-quality and satisfactory services to the community, as highlighted in a statement from the Police Media Unit.
