ශ්‍රී ලංකා රජයේ මූල්‍ය ප්‍රතිපාදන යටතේ ශ්‍රී ලංකා තැපැල් දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව මගින් ක්‍රියාත්මක කරනු ලබන මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතියේ මුල්ගල් තැබීම සර්ව ආගමික නායකයන්ගේ ආශීර්වාදය මධ්‍යයේ සිදු කෙරිණි.

මෙහිදී අදහස් දැක්වූ සෞඛ්‍ය හා ජනමාධ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය වෛද්‍ය නලින්ද ජයතිස්ස මහතා පෙන්වා දුන්නේ නුවරඑළිය තැපැල් කාර්යාලය යනු හුදෙක් තැපැල් සේවා සපයන රාජ්‍ය ආයතනයක් පමණක් නොව, නුවරඑළිය නගරයේ ඓතිහාසික උරුමය හා බැඳුණු සුවිශේෂී ගොඩනැගිල්ලක් බවයි.

නුවරඑළිය යනු දෙස් විදෙස් සංචාරකයන් විශාල පිරිසක් වාර්ෂිකව පැමිණෙන සංචාරක පුරවරයක් බැවින් එහි පවතින ඓතිහාසික ගොඩනැගිලි, පරිසරය හා අනන්‍යතාව ආරක්ෂා කරමින් සංචාරකයන්ට ආකර්ෂණීය අත්දැකීම් ලබාදිය හැකි පරිසරයක් නිර්මාණය කිරීමේ අවශ්‍යතාවද අමාත්‍යවරයා මෙහිදී පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

තැපැල් සේවාවේ සාම්ප්‍රදායික වටිනාකම් ආරක්ෂා කරගනිමින් නවීන පහසුකම් සහිත සේවාවක් ජනතාවට ලබාදීම මෙන්ම සංචාරක ව්‍යාපාරය හරහා නව ආදායම් උත්පාදන අවස්ථා ඇති කිරීමද මෙම සංවර්ධන වැඩපිළිවෙළේ අරමුණු අතර වන බව අමාත්‍යවරයාගේ අදහස් දැක්වීමේදී අවධාරණය විය.

මෙම අවස්ථාවට සෞඛ්‍ය හා ජනමාධ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය වෛද්‍ය නලින්ද ජයතිස්ස මහතා, තැපැල්පති එස්.ආර්.ඩබ්ලිව්.එම්.ආර්.පී. සත්කුමාර මහතා, නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් ආර්.ඒ.ඩී.ටී.එන්. තෙන්නකෝන් මහත්මිය, අධ්‍යාපන හා උසස් අධ්‍යාපන නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය මධුර සෙනෙවිරත්න මහතා සහ නුවරඑළිය මහ නගර සභාවේ නගරාධිපති උපාලි වනිගසේකර මහතා ඇතුළු රාජ්‍ය නිලධාරීහු, සර්ව ආගමික නායකයෝ සහ ආරාධිතයෝ රැසක් සහභාගි වූහ.

නුවරඑළිය තැපැල් කාර්යාලයේ ඓතිහාසික වටිනාකම ආරක්ෂා කරගනිමින් තැපැල් සේවාව හා සංචාරක කර්මාන්තය එකිනෙකට සම්බන්ධ කර නව සංවර්ධන අවස්ථා නිර්මාණය කිරීමේ වැඩපිළිවෙළේ වැදගත් පියවරක් ලෙස මෙම ව්‍යාපෘතිය සැලකිය හැකිය.

Foundation Laid for New Postal Building in Nuwara Eliya to Enhance Tourism

A significant milestone was marked in Nuwara Eliya on November 5, with the ceremonial laying of the foundation stone for a new two-story postal building. This initiative is part of a broader effort to promote tourism attractions and strengthen the tourism industry while preserving the historical identity of the city. Health and Media Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa presided over the event.

This project, backed by financial allocations from the Sri Lankan government, is being executed by the Sri Lanka Postal Department amidst blessings from leaders of various faiths.

Highlighting the importance of the Nuwara Eliya Post Office, Minister Jayatissa emphasized that it represents more than just a state institution providing postal services; it is a significant building intertwined with the historical heritage of the city.

Built during the colonial period, this historical post office has long captured the attention of both local and international tourists, serving as a prominent landmark. The minister stressed the necessity of safeguarding its historical value and architectural identity.

The initiative aims to equip the postal department with essential new facilities to enhance its administrative and operational efficiency, thereby further elevating the historic post office and its surrounding areas as tourist attractions.

Given that Nuwara Eliya attracts a vast number of both local and foreign tourists annually, the minister underlined the importance of creating an environment that offers appealing experiences while preserving the historical structures, environment, and identity.

The project's goals include not only providing modern facilities that maintain the traditional values of postal services but also generating new income opportunities through the tourism sector.

The inauguration was attended by a host of officials, including Minister Jayatissa, Postmaster General S.R.W.M.R.P. Sathkumara, Nuwara Eliya District Secretary R. A. D. T. N. Thenakoon, Deputy Minister of Education and Higher Education Madhura Senavirathne, and Mayor Upali Wanigasuriya, alongside numerous state officials, religious leaders, and invitees.

This project is viewed as a vital step towards creating new development opportunities by linking postal services with the tourism industry, all while preserving the historical significance of the Nuwara Eliya Post Office.
