කොලඹ ජාතික රෝහලටත් ජල ගැලීම්..

10 පස්වරුවේ කොළඹ නගරය සහ තදාසන්න ප්‍රදේශ ඇදහැළුණු  ධාරානිපාත වර්ෂාව හේතුවෙන් ප්‍රධාන මාර්ග රැසක් ජලයෙන් යටවී, දුම්රිය සහ මහා මාර්ග ප්‍රවාහන පද්ධතියට දැඩි බාධා එල්ල විය. කාර්යාල නිමවී නිවෙස් බලා ගමන් කළ දහස් සංඛ්‍යාත මගී ජනතාව මේ හේතුවෙන් දැඩි දුෂ්කරතාවකට පත්වූහ.

පැවති අධික වර්ෂාපතනයත් සමඟ කෙටි වේලාවක් තුළ කොල්ලුපිටිය, ගාලු පාර, බොරැල්ල, මරදාන, ආමර් වීදිය, තුම්මුල්ල සහ නගර ශාලාව ආශ්‍රිත ප්‍රධාන මාර්ග රැසක අඩි එකහමාරකට ආසන්න උසකට ජලය පිරීම හේතුවෙන් රථවාහන ධාවනය සම්පූර්ණයෙන්ම පාහේ ඇනහිටියේය. 

එමෙන්ම කොළඹින් පිටවන අධිවේගී මාර්ග පිවිසුම් ආශ්‍රිතවද කිලෝමීටර් ගණනාවක් දිවෙන දැවැන්ත රථවාහන තදබදයක් නිර්මාණය වී තිබිණි.

අධික වර්ෂාවත් සමඟ කොළඹ කොටුව සහ මරදාන දුම්රිය ස්ථාන අතර පිහිටි සංඥා පද්ධතියේ හටගත් හදිසි කාර්මික බිඳවැටීමක් හේතුවෙන් සියලුම මාර්ගවල දුම්රිය ධාවනය පස්වරුවේ දැඩි ලෙස ප්‍රමාද විය. ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගය, මුහුදුබඩ මාර්ගය, කැලණිවැලි සහ පුත්තලම මාර්ගවල ධාවනය වන සවස කාර්යාල දුම්රිය රැසක් නියමිත වේලාවට ධාවනය කිරීමට නොහැකි වීම නිසා දුම්රිය ස්ථාන මගීන්ගෙන් පිරී ඉතිරී ගිය අතර, බොහෝ දුම්රිය පැය ගණනාවක් අතරමඟ ප්‍රමාද විය.

දිවයින පුරා පවතින අන්තර් මෝසම් කාලගුණික තත්ත්වය සහ දිවයින ආශ්‍රිත වායුගෝලයේ පවතින කැළඹිලි ස්වභාවය හේතුවෙන් බස්නාහිර, සබරගමුව, මධ්‍යම සහ දකුණු පළාත්වල ඇතැම් ස්ථානවලට සවස් කාලයේ හෝ රාත්‍රී කාලයේ මිලිමීටර් 100 ඉක්මවූ තද වැසි ඇතිවිය හැකි බවට කාලගුණ විද්‍යා දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව මීට පෙර අනතුරු ඇඟවීමේ නිවේදන නිකුත් කර තිබිණි.

එසේම, කොළඹ නාගරික කලාපය තුළ කෙටි වේලාවක් තුළ ඇදහැලෙන මිලිමීටර් 100 ඉක්මවන අධික වර්ෂාපතනයකදී ජලය කඩිනමින් බැසයාමට ඇති කානු පද්ධතිවල පවතින ප්‍රමාණවත් නොවීම සහ අවහිරතා හේතුවෙන් මෙලෙස ක්ෂණික ජල ගැලීම් තත්ත්වයක් නිර්මාණය වන බව ආපදා කළමනාකරණ අංශ මීට පෙරද පෙන්වා දී තිබේ. 

පවතින වැසි සහිත කාලගුණය ඉදිරි දිනවලදීද සවස් කාලයේදී අපේක්ෂා කළ හැකි බැවින්, රිය ධාවනයේදී සහ ගමන් බිමන් සැලසුම් කිරීමේදී විමසිලිමත් වන ලෙස ආපදා කළමනාකරණ බලධාරීහු මහජනතාවගෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටිති.

Severe Flooding Disrupts Colombo and Surrounding Areas Amid Heavy Rainfall

Colombo’s roadways were severely impacted following intense rain showers in the late afternoon, resulting in widespread flooding that submerged several major routes. This deluge has caused significant disruption to both train and highway transportation systems, leaving thousands of commuters stranded as they attempted to return home after a long day at work.

The heavy rainfall led to water levels rising to approximately one and a half feet on key roads including Kollupitiya, Galle Road, Boralesgamuwa, Maradana, Ameer Street, Thummulla, and near city hall, effectively halting all vehicular movement.

Additionally, the outflow of traffic was intensified on the expressways leading out of Colombo, with heavy congestion reported over long distances. Commuters faced daunting delays, exacerbated by the cascading effects of the inclement weather.

Train services were equally delayed due to a sudden mechanical failure in the signal system between Colombo Fort and Maradana, dramatically affecting operations throughout the afternoon. Many trains on major routes such as the coastal line, Kelani Valley, and Puttalam experienced significant delays, contributing to crowded platforms filled with frustrated passengers waiting for updates.

Weather experts had previously issued warnings about potential thunderstorms across various regions of the island due to ongoing unstable atmospheric conditions. The Meteorological Department cautioned that certain areas within the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, and Southern provinces might witness over 100 millimeters of rainfall during the evening or night hours.

In light of the rapid accumulation of rainfall, shortcomings in the stormwater drainage systems have been flagged, as they struggled to accommodate the unprecedented water levels, leading to sudden flash flooding. The disaster management authorities have highlighted these concerns, calling for urgent attention to enhance infrastructure resilience.

As the rainy weather persists, officials are urging the public to exercise caution while traveling and consider their travel plans carefully in anticipation of further rainfall expected in the coming days.
