පොළොන්නරුව ප්‍රදේශයේ පැවති හමුවකදී අදහස් දක්වමින් නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍යවරයා මෙසේ පැවසීය.

"අපි පිළිගන්නවා අද තියෙන රුපියල් 95-100 මිල සාධාරණ නැහැ කියලා. ඒක 120 දක්වා වැඩි කරන්න ඕනේ. හැබැයි රජයට තියෙන ප්‍රශ්නය තමයි, රජය වී මිලදී ගත්තත් ඒවා කොටන්න මෝල් නැති එක. ඉතින් අපි එකපාරටම මෝලක් මවන්නද?" යනුවෙන් ඔහු ප්‍රශ්න කළේය.

රජය සතුව සහල් නිෂ්පාදන ක්‍රියාවලිය සඳහා අවශ්‍ය යටිතල පහසුකම් නොමැති වීම හේතුවෙන් වී මිල තීරණය කිරීමේදී පෞද්ගලික මෝල් හිමියන් මත යැපීමට සිදුව ඇති බව ද ඔහුගේ අදහසයි.

Sri Lanka's Deputy Minister Calls for Increase in Rice Prices Amid Supply Concerns

Deputy Minister of Housing, Construction, and Water Supply, T.B. Serath, has criticized the current rice prices, stating that the rates of Rs. 95 to 100 per kilo are unjustified. He argued that the price should be raised to at least Rs. 120 to reflect true market value.

During a meeting in the Polonnaruwa district, Serath highlighted a critical issue facing the government—the lack of adequate facilities to procure and distribute rice. He expressed concerns over the government's capacity to manage the supply chain effectively.

“We acknowledge that the current price of Rs. 95-100 is unfair,” he stated. “It is necessary to raise it to Rs. 120. However, the government’s challenge lies in its insufficient facilities to adequately purchase and distribute rice. Are we to explore the options for establishing a proper procurement mechanism?” he questioned.

Serath also pointed out that the absence of necessary infrastructure for rice production has forced the government to rely on private facilities when determining the price of rice.
