පළාත් සභා විසුරුවා තිබියදීත්, ඒවායේ සභාපතිවරුන් සහ ඔවුන්ගේ කාර්ය මණ්ඩල නඩත්තු කිරීම සඳහා රුපියල් මිලියන 332කට අධික මහජන මුදලක් වැය කර ඇති බව පළාත් සභා හා පළාත් පාලන නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය රුවන් සෙනරත් මහතා අනාවරණය කළේය.

නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍යවරයාට අනුව, අදාළ පළාත් සභාවල නිල කාලය අවසන් වී ඒවායේ කටයුතු අත්හිටුවා තිබුණද, අදාළ කාලසීමාව තුළ සභාපතිවරුන් සහ ඔවුන්ගේ පරිපාලන කාර්ය මණ්ඩල නඩත්තුව වෙනුවෙන් රුපියල් මිලියන 332.9ක මුදලක් වැය වී ඇත.

ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථාවේ සහ පවතින නීතිමය රාමුවේ ප්‍රතිපාදන අනුව, පළාත් සභාවක නිල කාලය අවසන් වුවද එහි සභාපති ධුරය වලංගු වන බැවින් මෙම වියදම් දැරීමට සිදුව ඇති බව ඔහු වැඩිදුරටත් පැහැදිලි කළේය.

 මේ හේතුවෙන් සභා ක්‍රියාත්මක නොවුණද, අදාළ නීතිමය ප්‍රතිපාදන මත සභාපතිවරුන්ට සහ ඔවුන්ගේ කාර්ය මණ්ඩලවලට හිමි පහසුකම් අඛණ්ඩව ලබා දීමට සිදුව තිබේ.

පළාත් සභා මැතිවරණය නොපැවැත්වීම හේතුවෙන් අක්‍රියව පවතින ආයතන නඩත්තු කිරීම සඳහා මෙලෙස විශාල මහජන මුදලක් වැය කිරීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් සමාජය තුළ දැඩි කතාබහක් සහ විවේචන මතුව ඇති පසුබිමක මෙම තොරතුරු අනාවරණය වී ඇත.

Government Spends Over Rs. 332 Million on Provincial Council Operations Despite Suspension

In a startling revelation, Deputy Minister of Provincial Councils and Local Government, Ruwan Senarath, disclosed that the government has allocated more than Rs. 332 million from public funds to maintain the chairs and administrative staff of dissolved provincial councils.

Although the official tenure of the respective provincial councils has lapsed and their activities halted, the funds amounting to Rs. 332.9 million were expended during this period for the upkeep of the chairpersons and their management teams, according to the Deputy Minister.

He further clarified that despite the termination of the councils' official term, the legal framework and constitutional provisions still recognize the validity of the chairpersons' positions, thereby necessitating these expenditures.

This situation has prompted ongoing payments to ensure that the entitlements of the chairpersons and their staff remain uninterrupted, even though the councils are not actively functioning.

The disclosure comes against a backdrop of growing concern and criticism within society regarding the hefty public expenditure directed towards maintaining inactive institutions due to the failure to conduct provincial council elections.
