කොළඹ නගර සභාවේ පාලක පක්ෂය සහ නගරාධිපතිනිය සමඟ එක්ව කටයුතු කළ නොහැකි බව පවසමින් විපක්ෂ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් දෙදෙනෙකු මුදල් කමිටුවෙන් ඉල්ලා අස්වී තිබේ.

මෙසේ ඉල්ලා අස්වී ඇත්තේ විපක්ෂ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් වන රෝයි බෝගහවත්ත සහ තරංග ශානක යන මහත්වරුන්ය.

නගරාධිපතිනි ව්රායි කැලී බැල්තසාර් මහත්මිය සහ පාලක පක්ෂයේ ක්‍රියාකලාපය විවේචනය කරමින් ඔවුන් පවසන්නේ, නගර සභාව මුහුණ දී සිටින වත්මන් අර්බුදයට තවදුරටත් හවුල් විය නොහැකි බවයි.

මාධ්‍ය වෙත අදහස් දක්වමින් රෝයි බෝගහවත්ත මහතා සඳහන් කළේ නගර සභාව විසින් ඉදිරිපත් කර ඇති අයවැය යෝජනා කිසිසේත්ම යථාර්ථවාදී නොවන බවයි.

"නගරාධිපතිනිය වසර අවසානය වන විට රුපියල් බිලියන 28ක ආදායම් ඉලක්කයක් ඉදිරිපත් කළත්, මේ වසරේ ජූනි මස අවසානය වන විට උපයා ඇත්තේ රුපියල් බිලියන 8ක් පමණයි. මෙවැනි තත්ත්වයක් තුළ පාලක පක්ෂය සතුටු කිරීමට අපට නොහැකියි," යැයි ඔහු පැවසීය.

නගරය පුරා ඩෙංගු රෝගය පැතිර යමින් පවතින අතර එය පාලනය කිරීමට නගර සභාව අපොහොසත් වී ඇති බවට ද ඔහු චෝදනා කළේය.

කෙසේ වෙතත්, මෙම චෝදනා ප්‍රතික්ෂේප කරමින් නියෝජ්‍ය නගරාධිපති හේමන්ත වීරකෝන් මහතා පවසන්නේ විපක්ෂ මන්ත්‍රීවරුන් නගරය පිරිසිදුව තබා ගැනීමේ වගකීම ඉටු කරනවා වෙනුවට දේශපාලන වාසි ලබා ගැනීමට උත්සාහ කරන බවයි.

ඔවුන්ගේ ඉල්ලා අස්වීම හරහා නගරය පිරිසිදු කිරීමට ඔවුන්ට ඇති උනන්දුවක් නොමැති බව මනාව පැහැදිලි වන බව ද ඔහු සඳහන් කළේය.

කොළඹ නගරයේ ඩෙංගු තත්ත්වය මේ වන විට පාලනය වී ඇති බව පෙන්වා දුන් නියෝජ්‍ය නගරාධිපතිවරයා, ජනවාරි මාසයේදී වාර්තා වූ 10% ක ඩෙංගු රෝගීන්ගේ ප්‍රතිශතය මේ වන විට 4% දක්වා අඩු වී ඇති බව ද පැවසීය.

 නගරයේ පෞද්ගලික නිවාස පිරිසිදු කිරීමේ ගැටලුවක් නොමැති වුවද, පොදු ආයතන පිරිසිදු කිරීමේ කටයුතු විධිමත් කිරීම වත්මන් ප්‍රධාන අභියෝගය වී ඇති බව ද ඔහු වැඩිදුරටත් ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

Opposition MPs Resign from Colombo Municipal Finance Committee Amid Concerns Over Governance

In a significant political move, two opposition members of the Colombo Municipal Council, Roy Bogahawatta and Tharanga Shanaka, have resigned from their positions on the Finance Committee, voicing their inability to collaborate with the ruling party and the Mayor.

The resignation comes as both MPs expressed serious concerns regarding the governance of the city. They criticized the management of Mayor Rosy Senanayake, stating that they could no longer support a council facing such severe challenges without effective leadership.

Speaking to the media, Roy Bogahawatta pointed out that the budget proposals presented by the municipal council were far from realistic. He emphasized that despite the Mayor setting a revenue target of 28 billion rupees by the year's end, the actual revenue collected by June was a mere 8 billion rupees. "Under these circumstances, we cannot endorse the ruling party's actions," he remarked.

The ongoing dengue outbreak in the city has exacerbated their concerns, with Bogahawatta accusing the council of failing to control the spread of the disease. He highlighted that the municipal authority had not effectively managed the public health crisis.

In response to these allegations, Deputy Mayor Hemanta Weerakoon defended the actions of the council. He suggested that the opposition members were more focused on gaining political leverage rather than fulfilling their responsibility to keep the city clean.

Weerakoon further asserted that the opposition's resignation indicates a lack of genuine interest in the city's cleanliness. He pointed out that the dengue situation in Colombo has improved, with the percentage of reported dengue cases dropping from 10% in January to 4% currently.

While there are no significant issues with cleaning private residences, he acknowledged that enhancing the cleanliness of public facilities remains a primary challenge for the council.
