රට බංකොලොත් කලේ කවුදැයි මහ බැංකු අධිපති කියයි...

 ශ්‍රී ලංකාව ආර්ථික වශයෙන් බංකොළොත් වීමට මූලික වූ හේතු සහ ඒ පිටුපස පැවති පරිපාලනමය දුර්වලතා පිළිබඳව ශ්‍රී ලංකා මහ බැංකුවේ අධිපති ආචාර්ය නන්දලාල් වීරසිංහ මහතා විශේෂ අනාවරණයක් සිදු කළේය.

අන්තර්ජාල නාලිකාවක පැවති සාකච්ඡාවකට එක්වෙමින් ඒ මහතා පෙන්වා දුන්නේ, තමන් ධුරය භාර ගන්නා විට රටේ මූල්‍ය තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳ සත්‍ය තොරතුරු එවකට සිටි ජනාධිපතිවරයාගෙන් පවා වසන් කර තිබූ බවයි.

2022 අප්‍රේල් මස 08 වැනිදා තමන් මහ බැංකු අධිපති ධුරය භාර ගන්නා අවස්ථාව වන විට, මෙරට විදේශ සංචිත ප්‍රමාණය ඇමරිකානු ඩොලර් මිලියන 25ක් වැනි අතිශය අවම මට්ටමකට ඇද වැටී තිබූ බව ඔහු සිහිපත් කළේය.

එහෙත්, ඉදිරි මාසය තුළ පමණක් ඩොලර් බිලියන 6ක ණය වාරික ගෙවීමට තිබූ බව ද ඔහු අනාවරණය කළේය.

"මට කලින් හිටපු මහ බැංකු අධිපතිවරු සහ මුදල් අමාත්‍යවරු රටේ සැබෑ තත්ත්වය ජනාධිපතිවරයාට හෝ පාර්ලිමේන්තුවට වාර්තා කර තිබුණේ නැහැ. ඔවුන් දිගින් දිගටම ප්‍රකාශ කළේ කිසිදු ප්‍රශ්නයක් නොමැතිව ණය ගෙවිය හැකි බවයි. නමුත් ඇත්ත තත්ත්වය වසන් කරමින් කටයුතු කිරීම නිසා රටේ ආර්ථිකය දැඩි අනතුරකට ලක් වුණා" යැයි අධිපතිවරයා සඳහන් කළේය.

ණය ගෙවීම තාවකාලිකව අත්හිටුවීමට තමන් ගත් තීරණය පිළිබඳව විපක්ෂය නගන චෝදනාවලට පිළිතුරු දෙමින් ඔහු කියා සිටියේ, එය රට මුළුමනින්ම බිඳ වැටීම වැළැක්වීමට තිබූ එකම විකල්පය වූ බවයි.

"අපි ණය හිමියන්ට දැනුම් දීලා මේ තීරණය ගත්තේ. එහෙම නොකළා නම් රට ‘Hard Default’ තත්ත්වයකට පත්වෙලා ජාත්‍යන්තර මූල්‍ය පද්ධතියෙන් මුළුමනින්ම කොන් වෙන්න ඉඩ තිබුණා. ඒ තීරණය ගත්තේ කැබිනට් මණ්ඩලයේ අනුමැතිය ඇතිව සහ පාර්ලිමේන්තුව දැනුවත් කරලයි" යනුවෙන් ඔහු අවධාරණය කළේය.

පෙර සිටි බලධාරීන් සත්‍යය වසන් කරමින් ණය ගෙවීමට උත්සාහ කිරීම හරහා රටේ අත්‍යවශ්‍ය ආහාර සහ ඉන්ධන ආනයනයට තිබූ මුදල් පවා විනාශ වූ බව පෙන්වා දුන් නන්දලාල් වීරසිංහ මහතා, වර්තමානයේ රට යම් ස්ථාවර මට්ටමකට පැමිණ ඇත්තේ එම වැරදි නිවැරදි කරමින් විනිවිදභාවයකින් යුතුව කටයුතු කිරීම නිසා බව ද වැඩිදුරටත් කියා සිටියේය.

Central Bank Governor Reveals Key Reasons Behind Sri Lanka's Economic Crisis

The Governor of the Central Bank of Sri Lanka, Dr. Nandalal Weerasinghe, made significant revelations regarding the fundamental causes behind the country's economic collapse and the administrative weaknesses that contributed to it.

During a discussion held on an online platform, he pointed out that even at the time he took office, the then President had concealed the true financial situation from him.

Recalling the moment he assumed the position of Central Bank Governor on April 8, 2022, he noted that the country's foreign reserves had plummeted to a critically low level of around $25 million.

However, he revealed that within the subsequent month alone, there was a need to repay a debt installment amounting to $6 billion.

"Previous governors of the Central Bank and finance ministers had never reported the true state of affairs to the President or Parliament. They continuously stated that there were no issues and that debts could be repaid without problems. However, this failure to act transparently led to the economy facing a serious crisis," the Governor stated.

In response to allegations from the opposition regarding his decision to temporarily suspend debt payments, he clarified that this was the only alternative to prevent the country from falling apart completely.

"We informed the creditors of our decision. Had we not done so, the country could have faced a ‘Hard Default’ status and risked complete isolation from the international financial system. This decision was made with the approval of the Cabinet and after informing Parliament," he emphasized.

Dr. Weerasinghe pointed out that attempting to repay debts while concealing the truth from past officials had even led to the destruction of funds needed for essential food and fuel imports. He added that the country has now stabilized to some extent due to corrective actions taken transparently to rectify those mistakes.
