Tensions Rise Outside Meegamuwa Prison Amid Relatives' Concerns

Fresh tensions flared outside the Meegamuwa Prison complex as relatives of inmates clashed with security personnel. The atmosphere grew increasingly heated as family members sought information about the wellbeing of their loved ones incarcerated within the facility.

The unrest stemmed from efforts to query officials about the current status of their relatives, igniting frustrations that had been simmering among the families. As emotions ran high, the situation became volatile, prompting heightened security responses.

In response to these circumstances, prison management has since released a list detailing the names of the inmates currently held inside, aiming to alleviate some of the anxiety gripping the relatives.

Additionally, citing security reasons, authorities announced plans to transfer approximately 800 inmates from Meegamuwa Prison to other facilities as a precautionary measure to ensure safety and order.
