 නුවරඑළිය, ග්‍රෙගරි වැවේ (16) දින පස්වරු 3:30ට පමණ ජෙට්ස්කී යාත්‍රාවක තම දරුවන් දෙදෙනා බෝට්ටු සවාරියක් රැගෙන ගොස් අනතුරට පත් වූ අවස්ථාවේ එය මුදා ගැනිමට අනෙක් බෝට්ටුකරුවන් ක්‍රියාත්මක නොවීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් විධිමත් පරික්ෂණයක් පවත්වන ලෙසත්, ප්‍රමිතියෙන් තොරව පවත්වාගෙන යන එම බෝට්ටු සේවාව ග්‍රෙගරි වැවෙන් ඉවත් කරන ලෙස අනතුරට පත් දරුවන් දෙදෙනාගේ පියා ලිඛිතව නුවරඑලිය මහ නගර සභෘවේ නගරාධිපතිවරයාගෙන් ඉල්ලා ඇත.

(16) දින අනතුරට පත් දරුවන් දෙදෙනාගේ පියා වන ජා ඇළ ප්‍රදේශයේ සිට නුවරඑලිය සංචාරයක් සදහා පැමිණි ධනුෂ්ක සදරුවන් සිද්ධිය සම්බන්ධයෙන් මෙසේ පැවසිය.

එම යාත්‍රාව ටික දුරක් ගිහින් ග්‍රෙගරිවැව මැද නතර වූ අවස්ථාවේ එම යාත්‍රාව පැදවූ කසුන් නැමැත්තා ගොඩබිමේ සිටින අනෙක් බෝට්ටුකරුගේ සහයෝගය ඉල්ලුවා.

මම කෑගැහුවා මගේ ළමයි දෙන්නා ග්‍රෙගරිවැව මැද බෝට්ටුවේ සිටිනවා, ඒ දෙන්නාව බේර ගන්න කියලා. කිසිවෙක් ඉදිරිපත් වුණේ නැ. බෝට්ටුව ටිකක් වෙලා ග්‍රෙගරිවැවෙ පා වෙමින් තිබිලා බෝට්ටුව පෙරලුණා.

ඒ වෙලාවේ මම එතන තිබුණ බෝට්ටුවක් අරගෙන එතනයට යන්න හදන අවස්ථාවේ ග්‍රෙගරිවැවෙ ආරක්ෂාවට යොදා තියෙන පොලිස් ජීවිතාරක්ෂක බලකායේ පොලිස් නිළධාරින් සිද්ධිය දැකලා ක්ෂණිකව එතනට ගිහිල්ලා මගේ දරුවන් දෙන්නයි, බෝට්ටුව පැදවපු කෙනාවයි බේරා ගත්තා.

බෝට්ටුවේ යන්න කලින් ජිවිතාරක්ෂක කබා දාලා තිබුණ නිසා මගේ දරුවන් දෙදෙනාගේ ජීවිතය බේරුනා. මේ වගේ බෝට්ටුකරුවන් සංචාරකයන් රැගෙන යන්න තියන එකෙන් සංචාරකයන්ගේ ජීවිත අවදානමේ. ඒ නිසා මම නගරාධිපතිතුමාට දුරකථනයෙන් කථා කරලත්, ලිඛිතවත් ඉල්ලීමක් කලා මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් විධිමත් පරික්ෂණයක් පවත්වලා ග්‍රෙගරිවැවෙ බෝට්ටු සවාරි යන සංචාරකයන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව තහවුරු කරන්න කියලා” යනුවෙන් ඔහු පැවසිය.

අප මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් නුවරඑළිය මහ නගර සභාවේ සභාපති උපාලි වනිගසේකර මහතාගෙන් අප කල විමසුමකට ඔහු කියා සිටියේ, අනතුර සම්බන්ධයෙන් ලද පැමිණිල්ල මත විධිමත් පරික්ෂනයක් පවත්වන ලෙස තම නගර සභාවේ නාගරික කොමසාරිස්වරයාට උපදෙස් ලබා දුන් බවයි.

ජෙට්ස්කී යාත්‍රාව අනතුර පත් අවස්ථාවේ එය මුදා ගැනිමට ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ අනෙක් බෝට්ටුකරුවන් කිසිවෙක් ඉදිරිපත් නොවීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් අප ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ බෝට්ටු සේවාව පවත්වාගෙන යන හිමිකරුවෙකුගෙන් අප කල විමසුමකට ඔහු කියා සිටියේ, ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ ලියාපදිංචි බෝට්ටු සංඛ්‍යාව 115ක් බවත්, මේ වන විට නීත්‍යානුකූල නොවන ආකාරයෙන් බෝට්ටු 15ක් පමණ ග්‍රෙගරිවැවෙ සංචාරකයන් රැගෙන යෑමට එක් කර ඇති බවයි.

මීට ප්‍රථම ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ බෝට්ටු සේවාව විධිමත් ආකාරයෙන් පවත්වාගෙන ගිය බවත්, මේ වන විට එය විධිමත් නොවන ආකාරයට පවත්වාගෙන යෑම නිසා මෙවැනි අනතුරු සිදු වන බවයි.

Father Calls for Investigation After Jet Ski Accident Endangers Children at Gregory Lake

A father whose two children were involved in a jet ski accident at Gregory Lake has urged local authorities to conduct a thorough investigation into the incident, citing the lack of action from other boat operators to rescue his trapped children. The accident occurred around 3:30 PM on the 16th, when the two children, aged 12 and 13, were enjoying a boat ride. Their father, Dhanushka, had rented the jet ski for approximately LKR 6,500 at the children's request.

According to his account, the jet ski stopped abruptly in the middle of the lake, prompting the operator to call for help from fellow boat operators. "I fell into distress, feeling that my children were stuck on the jet ski," Dhanushka recounted. Despite his appeals for assistance, none of the nearby operators intervened, and shortly afterward, the jet ski capsized, submerging the children.

A police rescue unit, patrolling nearby, witnessed the unfolding crisis and rushed to provide immediate aid. Dhanushka expressed gratitude that the children were wearing life vests, which ultimately saved their lives. "If not for the life jackets, my children would have been in grave danger," he stated, adding that such incidents highlight the risky nature of unregulated boat services operating in the area.

Dhanushka has formally requested the Municipal Commissioner of Nuwara Eliya, Upali Wanigasekara, to address the unregulated boat operations at Gregory Lake, emphasizing the necessity for enhanced safety measures to protect tourists. In response, Wanigasekara confirmed that his office is investigating the accident and has instructed the Municipal Commissioner to conduct a detailed examination based on the complaint received. Currently, 115 boats are registered for operation at Gregory Lake, although it is reported that around 15 additional boats are operating unlawfully.

As incidents involving unregulated boat services continue to pose risks to tourists, the community calls for stricter enforcement of regulations to ensure the safety of all who visit the popular destination.
