අම්බලන්ගොඩ, මෝදර දේවාලයේ මෙවර පැවැත්වීමට නියමිතව තිබූ 83 වන ඇසළ පෙරහැර මංගල්‍යය, සංවිධානාත්මක අපරාධ කල්ලි සාමාජිකයන් දෙදෙනෙකු අතර පවතින මත ගැටුමක් හේතුවෙන් අත්හිටුවීමට එහි සංවිධායක මණ්ඩලය තීරණය කර තිබේ.

පොලිසිය සඳහන් කරන පරිදි, දැනට රක්ෂිත බන්ධනාගාරගතව සිටින ලොකු පැටී නමැති අපරාධකරු සහ මෙරටින් පලාගොස් සිටින කරන්දෙණිය සුද්දා නමැති අපරාධකරු අතර පවතින මෙම ගැටුම පෙරහැර පැවැත්වීමට ප්‍රධාන බාධාවක් වී ඇත.

මෙම තත්ත්වය හමුවේ පෙරහැර සංවිධානය නොකරන ලෙසට දේවාල කමිටුවේ සාමාජිකයන්ට දුරකථන ඔස්සේ මරණ තර්ජන එල්ල වී ඇති බව ද වාර්තා වේ.

එල්ල වී ඇති තර්ජන හේතුවෙන් දේවාල කමිටුවේ ලේකම් සහ උපලේකම් ඇතුළු සාමාජිකයින් කිහිපදෙනෙකු මේ වන විට ප්‍රදේශය අතහැර ගොස් ඇති අතර, එක් සාමාජිකයෙකු විදේශගත වී ඇති බව ද අනාවරණය වී තිබේ.

මෙම දේවාලයට සම්බන්ධ ප්‍රචණ්ඩකාරී සිදුවීම් මාලාවක ආරම්භය සනිටුහන් කරමින් පසුගිය වසරේ නොවැම්බර් 4 වනදා අම්බලන්ගොඩ නගර සභාව අසලදී දේවාල කමිටුවේ හිටපු සභාපතිවරයා වෙඩි තබා ඝාතනය කෙරිණි.

මීට අමතරව, දේවාලයේ කපුවා ලෙස කටයුතු කළ පුද්ගලයා ද නීතිවිරෝධී වත්කම් විමර්ශන කොට්ඨාසය මගින් අත්අඩංගුවට ගනු ලැබුවේ ඔහුගේ බැංකු ගිණුම් හරහා රුපියල් මිලියන 330කට අධික මුදලක් සංසරණය වී තිබීම හේතුවෙනි. ඔහු ලොකු පැටී නමැති අපරාධකරුගේ මූල්‍ය කටයුතු මෙහෙයවූ බවට ද විමර්ශනවලදී හෙළි වී තිබේ.

Ambalangoda Festival Cancelled Amid Crime-related Conflicts

The 83rd annual Esala procession at the Modara Devalaya in Ambalangoda has been cancelled due to ongoing disputes between organized crime figures. Organizers made the decision following concerning developments in the area.

According to police reports, a violent altercation has erupted between two notorious criminals, one of whom, known as "Loku Pāti," is currently incarcerated, while the other, identified as "Karandeniya Sudda," remains at large. This rivalry poses a significant threat to the safety and security required for the procession to take place.

In light of these tensions, members of the devalaya committee have reportedly received death threats over the phone, urging them not to proceed with the festival.

The atmosphere of fear has prompted several committee members, including the secretary and other officials, to flee the area, with at least one individual now residing abroad for safety reasons.

The violence connected to the devalaya’s activities was underscored when the former chairman of the committee was shot dead near the Ambalangoda municipal council on November 4 of last year, marking a disturbing trend of targeted attacks associated with this site.

Additionally, an individual who served as the devalaya’s accountant was arrested by the Financial Crimes Investigation Division after it was revealed that over 330 million rupees had been funneled through his bank accounts, further linking him to Loku Pāti's financial operations.

This historic and vibrant festival, traditionally held in August with both daytime and nighttime processions, faces an unprecedented cancellation this year due to the escalation of criminal activities in the vicinity.
