මේ අතර, විශ්වවිද්‍යාල පරිශ්‍රයේ සහ අනෙකුත් නේවාසිකාගාරවල රැඳී සිටින සියලුම සිසුන්ට පවතින තත්ත්වය පිළිබඳව දැඩි විමසිල්ලෙන් පසුවන ලෙස පාලනාධිකාරිය විසින් විශේෂ දැනුම්දීමක් සිදු කර තිබේ.

තවදුරටත් වර්ෂාව පැවතුණහොත් මහවැලි ගඟ ආශ්‍රිත පහත්බිම් රැසක් ජලයෙන් යටවීමේ දැඩි අවදානමක් පවතින බව ආපදා කළමනාකරණ මධ්‍යස්ථානය ද අද දින නිවේදනය කළේය.

ඒ අනුව, ගංඟා නිම්නය ආශ්‍රිතව වෙසෙන පිරිස්වලට මෙන්ම විශ්වවිද්‍යාල ප්‍රජාවට ද අවධානයෙන් පසුවන ලෙස වැඩිදුරටත් උපදෙස් දී ඇත.

Peradeniya University Residents Evacuated Due to Rising River Water Levels

In response to the current adverse weather conditions, Peradeniya University has initiated the evacuation of students residing on the ground floor of the university's hostels. This precautionary measure was taken amidst concerns about the rapidly rising water levels of the Mahaweli River, which pose an imminent threat.

The decision comes in light of heavy rainfall affecting the area, raising the risk of flooding in low-lying regions near the river. University authorities deemed it essential to act swiftly to safeguard the wellbeing of students.

Additionally, the administration has issued a special advisory urging all students on campus and in other hostels to remain vigilant regarding the evolving situation.

The Disaster Management Centre has also confirmed today that a significant risk of flooding persists in various low-lying areas adjacent to the Mahaweli River, should the rainfall continue. They have urged both local residents and the university community to exercise caution and stay informed.

Further guidance has been provided to both groups to ensure their safety in light of the potential for worsening conditions.
