ශ්‍රී ලාංකේය සුභාවිත ගීත කලාවට සහ බෞද්ධ සාහිත්‍යයට අනුපමේය මෙහෙවරක් ඉටුකළ ප්‍රවීණ ගී පද රචක, ගත්කතුවර පූජ්‍ය රඹුකන සිද්ධාර්ථ හිමියෝ අපවත් වී වදාළහ.

අපවත් වන විට උන්වහන්සේ 76 වැනි වියේ පසුවූහ.

ශ්‍රී ජයවර්ධනපුර රෝහලේ නේවාසිකව ප්‍රතිකාර ලබමින් සිටියදී උන්වහන්සේ අද මෙලෙස අපවත් වී තිබේ.

දශක කිහිපයක් තිස්සේ දේශීය ගීත කලාව පෝෂණය කළ උන්වහන්සේ, බෞද්ධ දර්ශනය සහ සමාජීය සාරධර්ම අතිශය සංවේදී ලෙස ගීතයට මුසු කළ යතිවරයෙකි. 

'ලා දළු බෝපත්', 'සෙනෙහස පුදා', 'සඳ තරු මල්', 'සංසාරේ අපි', 'බුදු හාමුදුරුවෝ වැඩිය වගේ' වැනි අතිශය ජනප්‍රිය සහ අර්ථපූර්ණ ගීත දහස් ගණනක් උන්වහන්සේ අතින් ලියැවිණි.

විශේෂයෙන්ම භක්ති ගීත කලාවට නව ජීවයක් ලබාදුන් සිද්ධාර්ථ හිමියන්, සරල සුගම බසින් ගැඹුරු දහම් කරුණු රසික හදවත් තුළ තැන්පත් කිරීමට සමත් වූහ. 

ගී පද රචනය වෙනුවෙන් රාජ්‍ය සම්මාන ඇතුළු ගෞරව නාම රැසකින් පිදුම් ලැබූ උන්වහන්සේ, ග්‍රන්ථ රැසක් ද රචනා කරමින් බෞද්ධ සාහිත්‍ය පෝෂණය කිරීමට සුවිශේෂී දායකත්වයක් ලබා දුන්හ.

උන්වහන්සේගේ දේහය පිළිබඳ අවසන් කටයුතු ඉදිරියේදී දැනුම් දීමට නියමිතය.

Renowned Sinhala Lyricist Siddhartha R.I.P. at 76

Siddhartha, a distinguished lyricist who made significant contributions to the Sri Lankan Sinhala music scene and Buddhist literature, has passed away. He was 76 years old at the time of his death.

He succumbed to his ailments at Sri Jayewardenepura Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment.

For decades, Siddhartha played a vital role in nurturing local musical arts, intricately weaving Buddhist philosophy and social values into his lyrics.

He was the creative force behind numerous beloved and meaningful songs such as 'La Dalu Bopath', 'Senehasa Puda', 'Sanda Tharu Mal', 'Sansare Api', and 'Budu Hamuduruwobadu Wagema', leaving a lasting impact on Sri Lankan music.

Especially known for revitalizing the devotional music genre, he succeeded in embedding profound Buddhist teachings into the hearts of listeners through simple and accessible language.

A recipient of multiple state awards for his lyric writing, Siddhartha authored numerous publications, significantly contributing to Buddhist literature.

Details regarding the final rites of his remains will be announced in due course.
