සවුත්හැම්ප්ටන්හිදී පැවති පළමු 20-20 ජාත්‍යන්තර ක්‍රිකට් තරගයෙන් සංචාරක ශ්‍රී ලංකා කණ්ඩායම පරදා ලකුණු 119ක දැවැන්ත ජයක් අත්කර ගැනීමට සත්කාරක එංගලන්ත කණ්ඩායම සමත් විය.

කාසියේ වාසිය දිනාගත් ශ්‍රී ලංකා කණ්ඩායමේ ආරාධනයෙන් පළමුව පන්දුවට පහරදුන් එංගලන්තය නියමිත පන්දුවාර 20 අවසානයේ කඩුලු 4ක් පමණක් දැවී ලකුණු 254ක දැවැන්ත ලකුණු පුවරුවක් නිර්මාණය කළේය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා පන්දු යවන්නන්ට දැඩි ප්‍රහාරයක් එල්ල කළ එංගලන්ත නායක හැරී බෲක් පන්දු 49කදී හයේ පහර 6ක් සහ හතරේ පහර 10ක් සමගින් නොදැවී ලකුණු 114ක් රැස් කරමින් විශිෂ්ට ශතකයක් වාර්තා කළේය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකා ඉනිම වෙනුවෙන් දුනිත් වෙල්ලාලගේ පන්දු 21කින් ලකුණු 33ක් සහ දසුන් ශානක පන්දු 14කින් ලකුණු 24ක් ලබාගත් නමුත් සෙසු කිසිදු පිතිකරුවෙකුට ලකුණු 15 සීමාව ඉක්මවා යාමට නොහැකි විය. පන්දු යැවීමේදී විශිෂ්ට දස්කම් දැක්වූ එංගලන්ත වේගපන්දු යවන ක්‍රීඩක සොනී බේකර්  සිය පන්දුවාර 4 තුළ නිලකුණු පන්දුවාරයක් ද සමගින් ලකුණු 12කට කඩුලු 3ක් බිඳහෙලූ අතර, ජෙමී ඕවර්ටන් සහ ලියම් ඩෝසන් කඩුලු 2 බැගින් දවාගනිමින් එංගලන්ත ජයග්‍රහණය තහවුරු කළහ.

England Defeats Sri Lanka in First T20 International by 119 Runs

In a remarkable display of cricket, the England team secured a staggering victory against the touring Sri Lankan squad in the first T20 International held in Southampton, finishing with a commanding lead of 119 runs.

Batting first after winning the toss, England posted an impressive total of 254 runs, with only four wickets lost by the end of the allotted 20 overs. The team's performance was spearheaded by captain Harry Brook, who showcased an outstanding innings by scoring 114 runs off just 49 balls, which included six sixes and ten fours.

Brook received excellent support from opening batsman Jos Buttler, who contributed significantly with a score of 80 runs from 44 deliveries, highlighted by eight fours and three sixes. Sri Lanka's bowlers faced a tough challenge, with Wanindu Hasaranga, Dushmantha Chameera, and others managing to take just one wicket each.

Chasing the daunting target of 255 runs, the Sri Lankan batting lineup struggled against the aggressive England bowling attack, ultimately collapsing for 135 runs after 19 overs. None of the Sri Lankan batsmen were able to surpass 15 runs apart from Dunit Weerasinghe, who scored 33 off 21 balls, and Dasun Shanaka, who made 24 off 14 deliveries.

England's pace bowler Sonny Baker was particularly effective, claiming three wickets for just 12 runs in his four overs, while Jamie Overton and Liam Dawson also contributed with two wickets each, ensuring the victory for England.

Harry Brook’s exceptional century earned him the Player of the Match accolade, and with this win, England took a 1-0 lead in the series.
