මහනුවර සිට කුඹුක්කදුර දක්වා ධාවනය වන එම බස් රථය එදින පාසල් ළමුන් පිරිසක් රැගෙන හග්ගල උද්භිත උද්යානය නැරඹීමට චාරිකාවක් පැමිණ සිටියදී එම බස් රථය හග්ගල වැලිමඩ මාර්ගයේ බෑවුම් ප්රදේශයේ ධාවනය කරමින් තිබියදී රත්නපුර ප්රදේශයේ සිට එවැනිම චාරිකාවක් පැමිණි පුද්ගලයෙකු මාර්ගය හරහා මාරු විමේද එම බස් රථයට යට වී බරපතල ලෙස තුවාල ලබා මිය ගොස් ඇත.
බස් රථයේ රියදුරු සහ බස් රථය නුවරඑළිය පොලිසියේ රථවාහන අංශයේ නිළධාරින් විසින් අත්අඩංගුවට ගෙන බස් රථය සැකකරු අධිකරණය වෙත ඉදිරිපත් කර බස් රථය නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්රික් මෝටර් රථ පරික්ෂකවරයාගේ පරික්ෂාවකට යොමු කෙරින.
එම බස් රථය පරික්ෂා කිරිමෙදි සිසුසැරිය බස් රථයක් වශයෙන් නම් අවභාවිතා කරමින් බස් රථය ධාවනය කර ඇති බවත්, එම බස් රථයේ රෝද තුනකට පමණක් තිරිංග පද්ධතිය ක්රියාත්මක වන ආකාරයට බස් රථය තිබි ඇති බවත්, අත් තිරිංග පද්ධතියද ක්රියා විරහිත තත්වයේ පැවතිම, බස් රථයේ ටයර් දිරාපත් වී තිබිම, සියලු රෝදවල නට් එක බැගින් ගලවා ඉවත් කර තිබිම, තිරිංග බුස්ටරය ක්රියා නොකිරීමට සලසා තිබිම, පා පුවරු තහඩු ගෙවී පිහි තල ආකාරයට හානි වී තිබිම, කැබිනට් විදුරු යොදා modify කර තිබිම නිසා අනතුරකදී උල් ආකාරයට මෙම විදුරු බිඳී යෑම යන කරුණු හේතුකොට ගෙන බස් රථය තාවකාලිකව ධාවනයෙන් ඉවත් කිරිමට පියවර ගත් බවත්, එම බස් රථයේ තිබූ සියලුම අඩුපාඩුකම් සපුරා යලිත් තමන්ගේ පරික්ෂාවකට ඉදිරිපත් කරන ලෙස බස් රථයේ අයිතිකරුට උපදෙස් ලබා දුන් බවයි නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්රික් මෝටර් රථ පරික්ෂක ජාලිය බණ්ඩාර මහතා කියා සිටියේ.

Fatal Incident Involving Bus in Nuwara Eliya Raises Safety Concerns
A tragic incident in the Haggala area of Nuwara Eliya has resulted in the death of an individual after a malfunctioning bus struck him while traveling along the road. Janaka Bandara, the district motor vehicle examiner, revealed that issues with the bus's maintenance prompted its removal from service.
The bus, which primarily operates between Mahanuwara and Kumbukkadaura, was transporting school children to the Haggala Botanical Gardens when the incident occurred. As it navigated the route along the Welimada road, a person from Ratnapura, who had arrived on a similar excursion, crossed the road and was severely injured after being struck by the bus, later succumbing to his injuries.
The bus driver, along with the vehicle, was promptly apprehended by officers from the Nuwara Eliya Traffic Police Division. They have submitted the bus to the court while ensuring it is directed for a thorough examination by the district motor vehicle inspector.
During the inspection, it was discovered that the bus had been improperly utilized as a student transport vehicle. Key issues included only three wheels being operational due to a malfunctioning braking system, while other components showed extensive wear. Furthermore, the bus's tires were found to be deflated, the wheel nuts had been removed, and the braking booster was inoperative. Modifications to the cabin meant that during an accident, critical breakdowns could occur, leading to this unfortunate situation. Bandara affirmed that these deficiencies necessitated the bus's temporary removal from service, and he has instructed the owner to rectify all identified faults before presenting the bus for re-inspection.
