මස්කෙළිය ‍පොලිස්වසමට අයත් ගාඩ්මෝර් ප්‍රදේශයේ ගල් කන්ද පෞද්ගිලික වතුයායේ විශාල කොටසක් නායයැම හේතුවෙන් එම නායයෑමට ඉහළින් වූ වතු නිවාස පෙළක පදිංචි පවුල් ආරක්ෂිත ස්ථාන කරා යොමු කිරිමට එම වතු පාලන අධිකාරියට උපදෙස් ලබා දුන් බව මස්කෙළිය පොලිසියේ ස්ථානාධිපති ප්‍රධාන පොලිස් පරික්ෂක සරත් පුෂ්පකුමාර මහතා පැවසිය.

මාවුස්සාකැලේ ජලාශයට ඉහළින් වූ එම වතුයාය පිහිටි ප්‍ර දේශයට (20) දින පස්වරුවේ ඇදහැලුණු අධික වර්ෂාවත් සමග තේ වත්තේ විශාල කොටසක් එම වතුයායට පිවිසෙන ප්‍රධාන මාර්ගයද සමග නාය ගොස් ඇත.

නායයෑමෙන් මාර්ගය අවහිර වීම නිසා එම වතුයායට පිවිසීමට වෙනත් මාර්ගයක් නොමැති වීම හමුවේ එම වතුයායේ පදිංචිකරුවන් දැඩි ලෙස පීඩාවට පත් වී ඇත.

නායයෑම් සම්බන්ධයෙන් ජාතික ගොඩනැගිලි පර්යේෂණායතනය වෙත දැනුම් දුන් බවද පොලිස් ස්ථානාධිපතිවරයා පැවසීය.

Families Evacuated as Landslide Hits Tea Estate in Maskeliya

Residents of a cluster of homes near a tea estate in the Gadmore area of Maskeliya have been relocated due to a significant landslide that struck the region. The instruction for evacuating the families was issued by the estate management, according to Chief Police Inspector Sarath Pushpakumara from the Maskeliya Police.

The landslide, which occurred on the evening of the 20th, followed heavy rainfall that impacted the area above the Mawussakale reservoir. As a result, a substantial section of the tea plantation was compromised, leaving the main access road to the estate blocked.

With the main route obstructed, residents have found themselves in a precarious situation, lacking any alternative means of entering or exiting the plantation. This has placed considerable pressure on the local community, as access to essential services and supplies has been severely hindered.

Furthermore, it has been reported that the National Building Research Organization has been notified regarding the landslide, highlighting ongoing concerns about safety and infrastructure integrity in the area.
