2024/2025 අධ්‍යයන වර්ෂය සඳහා මහපොළ ශිෂ්‍යත්වයට සුදුසුකම් ලැබූ සිසුන්ට ලිපි යවමින් සහ අදාළ නිල වෙබ් අඩවිය ඔස්සේ නිවේදන නිකුත් කරමින් මෙම බලපෑම සිදු කර ඇති බව හෙතෙම පෙන්වා දෙයි.

අදාළ නිවේදන උපුටා දක්වමින් ඔහු සඳහන් කළේ, කොළඹ අරලියගහ මන්දිරයේ පැවැත්වෙන ශිෂ්‍යත්ව ප්‍රදානෝත්සවය සඳහා සිසුන් අනිවාර්යයෙන්ම සහභාගී විය යුතු බවට දැනුම් දී ඇති බවයි.

විශේෂයෙන්ම සිසුන්ගේ නිවෙස් වෙත යවා ඇති ලිපිවල, අදාළ උත්සවයට පැමිණ ලියාපදිංචි වී සහතිකය ලබා ගැනීමට අපොහොසත් වන සිසුන්ට මහපොළ ශිෂ්‍යත්ව ප්‍රතිලාභය ලබා දීමට නොහැකි වන බවට පැහැදිලිවම තර්ජනාත්මක ස්වරූපයෙන් සඳහන් කර ඇති බව ද ඔහු පැවසීය.

මෙය ශිෂ්‍ය ප්‍රජාව දේශපාලන ප්‍රචාරණ යාන්ත්‍රණයකට බලහත්කාරයෙන් යොදා ගැනීමේ පහත් උත්සාහයක් බවට චෝදනා කරන අන්තරේ කැඳවුම්කරු, ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ දේශපාලන රැස්වීමක් බවට අදාළ උත්සවය පත් කර ගනිමින් සිසුන්ගේ මූලික අයිතිවාසිකමක් වන මහපොළ ශිෂ්‍යත්වය අහිමි කරන බවට මෙලෙස බියවැද්දීම තරයේ හෙළා දකින බව ද වැඩිදුරටත් සඳහන් කළේය.

Government Allegedly Ties Scholarship Eligibility to Attendance at Ceremony

Allegations have surfaced from the Inter-University Students’ Federation, claiming that the government is enforcing a controversial condition regarding the Mahapola scholarship. According to convener Madushan Chandrathith, students risk losing their scholarship eligibility if they do not attend an event at the Araliya Gaha Mandiraya, headed by Prime Minister Harin Fernando.

Chandrathith emphasized that the pressure is evident in official correspondence sent to students and announcements released on the relevant official website for the 2024/2025 academic year. This coercive measure reportedly stipulates the need for attendance at a specifically designated scholarship award ceremony.

He pointed out that the letters dispatched to students clearly warn that those failing to register and participate in the ceremony will be disqualified from receiving the benefits of the Mahapola scholarship.

This development has raised serious concerns among the student community. Chandrathith accused the government of using the event as a political tool, effectively undermining students’ fundamental rights to access scholarships. He noted that such tactics appear to be an alarming misuse of power that could easily strip students of their entitlements.
