මෙමගින් දෙමාපියන්ට තම දරුවන් මත්ද්රව්ය භාවිත කර ඇත්දැයි රහසිගතව පරීක්ෂා කිරීමට අවස්ථාව සැලසෙන අතර, දිගුකාලීන සැලසුමක් ලෙස මෙම කට්ටල සිල්ලර වෙළඳසැල් හරහා පවා ලබාදීමට රජයේ අවධානය යොමුව ඇත.
ජනාධිපති ලේකම් කාර්යාලයේදී ජනාධිපති අනුර කුමාර දිසානායක මහතාගේ ප්රධානත්වයෙන් පැවති ‘රටම එකට’ ජාතික මෙහෙයුම් සභා රැස්වීමේදී ද මේ පිළිබඳව දීර්ඝ ලෙස සාකච්ඡා වී තිබේ.
මත්ද්රව්ය ජාවාරම්කරුවන් සමඟ සබඳතා පවත්වන, මත්ද්රව්ය භාවිත කරන හෝ අපරාධවලට සම්බන්ධ වන කිසිදු නිලධාරියෙකුට ශ්රී ලංකා පොලිස් සේවය තුළ ඉඩක් නොමැති බව පොලිස්පතිවරයා මෙහිදී දැඩිව අවධාරණය කළේය. එවැනි නිලධාරීන් සම්බන්ධයෙන් කිසිදු ලිහිල් ප්රතිපත්තියක් අනුගමනය නොකරන බවත්, පොලිස් සේවයේ විනය සහ අවංකභාවය රැකීම තම ප්රමුඛතම කාර්යය බවත් ඔහු පැවසීය.
පසුගිය කාලසීමාව තුළ මත්ද්රව්ය වැටලීම් සහ අත්අඩංගුවට ගැනීම් ඉහළ යාමට හේතුව මහජනතාව පොලිසිය කෙරෙහි තබන විශ්වාසය ඉහළ යාම බව පෙන්වා දුන් ඒ මහතා, ජනතාවගෙන් ලැබෙන විශ්වාසනීය තොරතුරු මත මහා පරිමාණ වැටලීම් රැසක් සාර්ථක කර ගැනීමට හැකි වූ බව ද සඳහන් කළේය.
විදේශගතව සිට මෙරට මත්ද්රව්ය ජාල මෙහෙයවන ප්රධාන ජාවාරම්කරුවන් සහ බන්ධනාගාර තුළ සිට ක්රියාත්මක වන අපරාධ කල්ලි මර්දනය කිරීමට ද විශේෂ වැඩපිළිවෙළක් ක්රියාත්මක බව පොලිස්පතිවරයා අනාවරණය කළේය. එමෙන්ම, පොලිස් සේවයේ පවතින නිලධාරී හිඟය පියවීම සඳහා අලුතින් නිලධාරීන් 10,000ක් බඳවා ගැනීමට සැලසුම් කර ඇති බවත්, දැනටමත් 1,500ක් පුහුණුව ලබමින් සිටින බවත් ඔහු පැවසීය.
ජනාධිපතිවරයාගේ උපදෙස් මත පිහිටුවා ඇති විශේෂ කමිටු පහක් හරහා මත්ද්රව්ය සැපයුම සහ ඉල්ලුම යන අංශ දෙකම පාලනය කිරීමට කටයුතු කරන බවත්, මෙම ජාතික මෙහෙයුම සාර්ථක කර ගැනීමට මහජන සහභාගීත්වය අත්යවශ්ය බවත් පොලිස්පති ප්රියන්ත වීරසූරිය මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් ප්රකාශ කළේය.
Special Operations Launched to Combat Drug Abuse Among School Students
In a decisive move to curb the spread of drugs among school students nationwide, Police Chief Priyanka Weerasuriya has announced the initiation of special operations. He is urging all school principals to seek assistance from police officers and certified canine units in this critical effort.
Weerasuriya called on parents and teachers to maintain vigilant oversight over children's behaviors and activities. His comments underscore the dual responsibility of educators and guardians in safeguarding youth from the dangers of drugs.
In line with the national strategy on drug eradication, presided over by the President, the police chief revealed that a proposal has been submitted to a national committee aimed at enhancing drug prevention measures. He highlighted an initiative to introduce rapid drug testing kits to the market, making them readily available for public use.
This approach will provide parents with a confidential means to check whether their children are using drugs. Additionally, long-term plans are in motion to make these testing kits available through retail stores, as part of the government’s wider commitment to combat drug abuse.
The issue was extensively discussed during a meeting of the 'Whole Country Together' national operational committee, chaired by President Anura Kumara Dissanayaka, held at the Presidential Secretariat.
Weerasuriya emphatically stated that no officer within the Sri Lanka Police Service would be tolerated if found engaging in drug trafficking or related criminal activities. He made it clear that there would be no leniency for officials who associate with drug traffickers, reinforcing the priority of maintaining discipline and integrity within the police force.
The recent uptick in drug seizures and arrests reflects a growing trust in the police by the public, which has enabled significant operations based on credible intelligence. Weerasuriya noted that the collaboration of the community is essential for the success of these initiatives.
Furthermore, the police chief outlined a specialized strategy aimed at dismantling drug networks operated by major traffickers overseas and prison gangs. Plans are already underway to recruit an additional 10,000 officers to address the current staffing shortage, with 1,500 officers already undergoing training.
Through five special committees established on the President's directive, the police are focusing on regulating both the supply and demand aspects of drug-related issues, emphasizing that public participation is crucial in making this national operation a success.
