India Secures Spot in Asian Games Cricket Final with Commanding Victory Over Sri Lanka
In a stunning display of dominance, the Indian cricket team secured a place in the final of the Asian Games by defeating Sri Lanka by a staggering 124 runs in the second semi-final match held yesterday at the Nishin Sports Ground in Japan.
Winning the toss and opting to bat first, India posted an impressive total of 169 runs, losing only seven wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Key contributions came from opener Ishan Kishan, who delivered a powerful performance, scoring 80 runs off just 46 balls, featuring six fours and four sixes. His solid innings was complemented by Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who scored 38 runs, hitting six fours and two sixes during his 21-ball effort. Skipper Shreyas Iyer added 13 runs, while none of the other batsmen managed to cross the ten-run mark.
Chasing a target of 170 runs, Sri Lanka's top order faltered dramatically, collapsing to 45 runs within just 9.5 overs. Remarkably, all seven main batsmen fell without scoring, a rare and disappointing outcome for the team. Notable dismissals included openers Sadeera Samarawickrama and Sohan de Livera, both bowled out by Jasprit Bumrah, while Lahiru Kumara was dismissed without scoring after a run out. Ashen Bandara, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, and Binura Fernando also fell cheaply, failing to contribute runs.
The lone bright spot for Sri Lanka came from Nuwandika Pranandu, who managed to score 15 runs off 11 balls, including two fours. Captain Sahan Aarachchi contributed nine runs before his dismissal, while Tharindu Ratnayake and Chamika Karunaratne added five and four runs, respectively.
India’s bowling attack proved lethal, with Bumrah, Axar Patel, and Abhishek Sharma each claiming two wickets to firmly secure the victory for the team. With this remarkable 124-run win, India has booked its place in the gold medal match of the Asian Games cricket tournament.
