ACPOSL Suspends Licensing Procedures Amid Industry Protests
The Association of Sri Lankan Music Creators and Disseminators (ACPOSL) has decided to temporarily suspend its operational fee collection system and licensing procedures following intense protests and reactions from various stakeholders in the entertainment sector. This decision comes as part of a comprehensive review of its processes.
In an official statement, the Board of Directors of ACPOSL announced that this suspension will remain in effect until the conclusion of their annual general meeting scheduled for November. The association has emphasized that these temporary measures will not adversely affect its rights, ethical practices, or legal standing.
The action is a direct response to significant criticisms levied at the organization in recent weeks. ACPOSL noted that a careful consideration of the diverse viewpoints presented by various quarters of the entertainment industry prompted this decision.
Expressing regret for any inconvenience caused to the public due to recent circumstances, the association also acknowledged concerns raised in media interactions, indicating a commitment to addressing any unintended perceptions or impacts.
ACPOSL aims to establish a fair and transparent payment system for music creators and distributors while supporting the ongoing growth of the entertainment sector. It plans to initiate formal discussions with all industry stakeholders regarding proposed amendments to the licensing framework and fee structures.
Following these discussions, the revised framework will be presented for member approval at the upcoming general meeting in November. The association further intends to ensure that all necessary legal procedures are completed before publishing the revised framework in the government gazette.
