1989 වසරේදී ඓතිහාසික ශ්‍රී දළදා මාළිගාවට එල්ල වූ ප්‍රහාරයේදී වෙඩි තැබීම් සිදු කළ ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණේ සාමාජිකයන් කවුරුන්දැයි වහා හඳුනාගෙන, ඔවුන්ට එරෙහිව නීතිය දැඩිව ක්රියාත්මක කරන ලෙස සමගි ජන බලවේගය පොලිසියෙන් ඉල්ලා සිටියි.
සමගි ජන බලවේගයේ මහලේකම්වරයා ඇතුළු පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී කණ්ඩායම මල්වතු පාර්ශ්වයේ මහානායක තිබ්බටුවාවේ ශ්‍රී සිද්ධාර්ථ සුමංගල මහානාහිමිපාණන් වහන්සේ බැහැදුටු අවස්ථාවේදී උන්වහන්සේ කළ ප්රකාශයක් පදනම් කරගනිමින්, පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී අජිත් පී. පෙරේරා මහතා මාධ්‍ය හමුවකදී මේ බව අවධාරණය කළේය.
එහිදී වැඩිදුරටත් අදහස් දැක්වූ අජිත් පී. පෙරේරා මහතා සඳහන් කළේ, 1989 පෙබරවාරි මස ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ විසින් ශ්‍රී දළදා මාළිගාවට වෙඩි තැබූ බවට මහානායක හිමිපාණන් වහන්සේ වගකීමෙන් ප්‍රකාශ කළ බවයි.
එම වෙඩි තැබීම හේතුවෙන් පොලිස් නිලධාරියකු ඇතුළු කිහිප දෙනෙකු ජීවිතක්ෂයට පත්ව දේපළ හානි සිදු වූ බවත්, ආරක්ෂකයන් සතුව තිබූ ගිනිඅවි පැහැරගෙන ගිය බවත් ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.
ශ්‍රී දළදා මාළිගාවට බෝම්බ ප්‍රහාරයක් එල්ල කළේ එල්.ටී.ටී.ඊ. සංවිධානය වුවද, ඊට පෙර එම පූජනීය භූමියට ප්‍රහාරයක් එල්ල කරමින් ලේ වැගිරවූ පළමු ත්‍රස්තවාදී කණ්ඩායම ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ බවට මහානායක හිමියන් කළ ප්‍රකාශයෙන් තහවුරු වන බව හෙතෙම ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.
"දළදා මාළිගාවට බෝම්බ නොගැසූ පමණින් ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණ නිර්දෝෂී වන්නේ නැහැ. බෝම්බ ප්‍රහාරයකින් හෝ වෙඩි තැබීමකින් මිනිසුන් ඝාතනය කිරීම එක සමාන අපරාධයක්. එකල උතුරේ එල්.ටී.ටී.ඊ. සංවිධානය ත්‍රස්තවාදය ව්‍යාප්ත කරද්දී, දකුණේ එම ක්‍රියාවම සිදු කළේ ජනතා විමුක්ති පෙරමුණයි" යනුවෙන් ද ඔහු සඳහන් කළේය.
මිනීමැරුම් චෝදනාවලට අදාළ නීතිමය ක්‍රියාමාර්ග කාලාවරෝධය නොවන බැවින්, මල්වතු මහානාහිමියන්ගේ මෙම ප්‍රකාශය ප්‍රබල සාක්ෂියක් කරගනිමින් අදාළ වෙඩි තැබීමට සම්බන්ධ සියලු දෙනාට එරෙහිව නීතිය ක්රියාත්මක කිරීමට මෙතෙක් ප්‍රමාද වී නොමැති බව ද මන්ත්‍රීවරයා වැඩිදුරටත් කියා සිටියේය.
Calls for Legal Action Against 1989 Shooting Incident at Sri Dalada Maligawa
The Samagi Jana Balawegaya has urged the police to swiftly identify and take stringent legal action against the members of the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna responsible for the shooting incident at the historic Sri Dalada Maligawa in 1989. This appeal comes in the wake of recent statements made by prominent Buddhist leaders linking the group to violence that occurred during that tumultuous period.
Ajith P. Perera, a Member of Parliament from the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, reiterated the call during a media briefing, citing the remarks made by the Chief Incumbent of the Malwathu Nikaya, Sri Siddhartha Sumangala Thera, during a recent religious event. Perera emphasized that the monk had unequivocally attributed the shooting at the Sri Dalada Maligawa to the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna.
He further elaborated that several individuals, including a police officer, lost their lives in the attack, while significant property damage was reported. According to Perera, firearms belonging to security personnel were also pilfered during the incident.
While the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) later launched a bomb attack at the same sacred site, Perera asserted that it was the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna that committed the first act of terrorism against the revered location, as confirmed by the statements of Buddhist leaders.
“The Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna cannot absolve itself of blame simply because they did not bomb the Dalada Maligawa. Murder, whether through a bomb or shooting, is equally heinous. While the LTTE spread terrorism in the North, it was the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna that committed similar acts in the South,” he stated.
Noting that legal measures against homicide charges are not bound by time restrictions, Perera stressed the importance of acting on the strong evidence provided by the Malwathu Maha Nayake’s statements, asserting that there should be no further delay in prosecuting all individuals connected to the shooting incident.
