Seven Arrested in Violent Attempt to Disrupt Police Raid on Illegal Cannabis Cultivation

In a dramatic turn of events in Mannar, a police operation aimed at dismantling an illegal cannabis cultivation site was met with fierce resistance, resulting in the arrest of seven individuals, including a woman accused of attempting to set a police vehicle ablaze.

Acting on a tip-off, officers from the Madhu police station raided a residence in the Periyakulam area believed to be harboring an unauthorized grow. This operation involved a team of four police officers who executed the raid and apprehended the suspect running the illicit operation.

During the raid, law enforcement seized a significant stash of marijuana and 37 cannabis cultivation tools belonging to the detainee. They prepared to transport the contraband to the police station for further processing.

However, chaos ensued as the suspect's wife, in a frenzied attempt to rally local residents, initiated a raucous scene. She vocally lashed out, gathering a crowd that ultimately obstructed the main gate of the property, effectively trapping the police inside.

Subsequent investigations revealed that the woman threatened officers, stating she would douse their vehicle with petrol and ignite it. This brazen act of intimidation catalyzed her arrest, and all seven suspects were charged with obstructing police operations and attempts to cause property damage.

The Madhu police are continuing their investigation into the incident, aiming to unravel the full extent of the illegal activities in the region.
