තවදුරටත් අදහස් දැක්වූ නියෝජ්‍ය ඇමැතිවරයා, වත්මන් රජය යටතේ මැති ඇමැතිවරුන්ට පැවති සාම්ප්‍රදායික පොලිස් ආරක්ෂාව ලබා නොදෙන නමුත්, බුද්ධි අංශ මඟින් සිදු කරන Threat Assessment වාර්තා මත පදනම්ව අවශ්‍ය ඕනෑම පුද්ගලයෙකුට ආරක්ෂාව සලසා දීමට බැඳී සිටින බව ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

ඒ අනුව හිටපු ජනාධිපති රනිල් වික්‍රමසිංහ මහතා වෙතද නිසි ආරක්ෂාවක් සලසා දී ඇති බවත්, කිසිවකුගේ ආරක්ෂාව පිළිබඳව ගැටලුවක් නොමැති අතර යම් ගැටලුවක් මතුවුවහොත් ඊට මැදිහත් වීමට පොලිස් දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සූදානමින් සිටින බවත් ඔහු වැඩිදුරටත් අවධාරණය කළේය.

Former President Ranil Wickremesinghe's Security Incident Clarified by Deputy Minister

The recent incident involving a security personnel's encounter with a camera during former President Ranil Wickremesinghe's appearance in court was attributed to a moment of chaos rather than a deliberate attack or security lapse, according to Deputy Minister of Public Security, Sunil Watagala.

Video footage circulating on social media captures the moment the security official's face collided with the camera amidst a commotion between journalists and onlookers. This has sparked concerns regarding the adequacy of security within the court premises.

Addressing these issues during a media briefing, Watagala acknowledged the situation raised serious questions about court security, asserting that while it could potentially escalate to a more dangerous scenario, the incident itself did not manifest as a significant security breach.

Sunil Watagala emphasized that there was no substantial security flaw evident in the rationale behind the incident. He noted that the court premises had not experienced any circumstances that would warrant such an altercation, suggesting that the collision was simply a misfortunate occurrence due to the crowded environment.

He concluded that a comprehensive investigation would need to be conducted to draw definitive conclusions regarding the incident.

Furthermore, the Deputy Minister clarified that both the Ministry of Justice and the government are actively enhancing security protocols in judicial complexes to ensure safety. He pointed out that in the past, access to court areas was denied without proper checks, and all individuals entering must now undergo stringent security screenings.

Watagala also shared that under the current government, traditional police protection is not automatically afforded to ministers. However, security for any individual is provided based on assessments conducted by intelligence units. He confirmed that former President Wickremesinghe is receiving appropriate protection, stating there are no concerns regarding his security, and the police department remains ready to intervene should any issues arise.
