ලාල් විජේනායක අභාවප‍්‍රාප්ත වේ..

 ජාතික ජන බලවේගයේ මෙහෙයුම් කමිටු සහ ජාතික විධායක සභා සාමාජිකයෙකු මෙන්ම මෙරට ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ නීතිඥවරයෙකු සහ මානව හිමිකම් ක්‍රියාකාරිකයෙකු වූ ලාල් විජේනායක මහතා අද (31) පස්වරුවේ අභාවප්‍රාප්ත විය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ප්‍රගතිශීලී වාමාංශික දේශපාලන ව්‍යාපාරය තුළ දශක ගණනාවක් පුරා සක්‍රීය කාර්යභාරයක් ඉටු කළ ඒ මහතා, ශිෂ්‍ය අවධියේ සිටම ලංකා සමසමාජ පක්ෂය  සමඟ එක්ව දේශපාලනයේ නිරත වූවෙකි. 

දීර්ඝ කාලයක් ලංකා සමසමාජ පක්ෂයේ මධ්‍යම කාරක සභිකයෙකු සහ දේශපාලන මණ්ඩල සාමාජිකයෙකු මෙන්ම එහි භාණ්ඩාගාරිකවරයා ලෙසද කටයුතු කළ හෙතෙම, පසුව පක්ෂයෙන් ඉවත්ව එක්සත් වාමාංශික පෙරමුණ ගොඩනැගීමේ පුරෝගාමියෙකු ලෙස කටයුතු කළේය.

1988 වසරේ පළාත් සභා ක්‍රමය ස්ථාපිත කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව පිහිටුවන ලද ප්‍රථම මධ්‍යම පළාත් සභාවේ විපක්ෂ නායක ධුරය හොබවනු ලැබුවේද ලාල් විජේනායක මහතා විසිනි.

නීතියේ ආධිපත්‍යය, අධිකරණයේ ස්වාධීනත්වය සහ පුරවැසි අයිතිවාසිකම් වෙනුවෙන් අඛණ්ඩව හඬ නැඟූ ඒ මහතා 'ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදය සඳහා නීතිඥයෝ'  සංවිධානයේ කැඳවුම්කරු සහ සමාරම්භක සාමාජිකයෙකු ලෙසද කටයුතු කරමින් සිවිල් හා ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදී අරගලයන්හි පෙරමුණ ගත්තේය.

ලාල් විජේනායක මහතා 1969 වසරේදී නීතිඥවරයෙකු ලෙස දිවුරුම් දීමෙන් පසු, 1971 අප්‍රේල් කැරැල්ලට සම්බන්ධ චූදිත තරුණයින් වෙනුවෙන් අපරාධ යුක්ති විනිශ්චය කොමිසම  හමුවේ ජ්‍යෙෂ්ඨ නීතිඥ එස්. නඩේසන් මහතා සමඟ පෙනී සිටිමින් සිය වෘත්තීය ජීවිතයේ මුල් භාගයේ සිටම පීඩිතයන් වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටියේය. එසේම මහවැලි ගොවීන්ගෙන් ජල බද්දක් අය කිරීමට එරෙහිව ගොවි ජනතාව වෙනුවෙන් පෙනී සිටිමින් එම අසාධාරණ බද්ද අහෝසි කරවීමට අධිකරණය හමුවේ ඓතිහාසික නීතිමය සටනක් මෙහෙයවූයේද ඔහු විසිනි.

විශේෂයෙන්ම, 2015-2019 කාලසීමාවේදී නව ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථාවක් සම්පාදනය කිරීම උදෙසා පත් කරන ලද 'ආණ්ඩුක්‍රම ව්‍යවස්ථා ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ පිළිබඳ මහජන නියෝජන කමිටුවේ' සභාපතිවරයා ලෙස පත් වූයේද ලාල් විජේනායක මහතාය. එහිදී රට පුරා ජනතා අදහස් විමසමින් පුළුල් ව්‍යවස්ථා ප්‍රතිසංස්කරණ වාර්තාවක් රජය වෙත භාරදීමට ඔහු ප්‍රමුඛත්වය ගෙන කටයුතු කළේය. 

විධායක ජනාධිපති ධුරය අහෝසි කිරීම සහ ජාතික සමගිය තහවුරු කිරීම වෙනුවෙන් දිගින් දිගටම පෙනී සිටි ඒ මහතා, ජාතික ජන බලවේගය බිහිවීමේදී පුළුල් දේශපාලන හා ප්‍රජාතන්ත්‍රවාදී බලවේග ඒකරාශී කිරීම උදෙසා සිය ජීවිතයේ අවසන් භාගය දක්වාම කැපීපෙනෙන දායකත්වයක් සැපයීය.

Prominent Sri Lankan Human Rights Advocate Lal Vijeyanayake Passes Away

Lal Vijeyanayake, a distinguished member of the National People's Power (NPP) and a senior lawyer, passed away this afternoon (31). Known for his unwavering commitment to human rights and civil liberties, Vijeyanayake was a formidable force in Sri Lanka's progressive leftist political landscape for decades.

His political journey began during his student years when he aligned himself with the Lanka Sama Samaja Party (LSSP). Over the years, he became a central committee member and served as the party’s treasurer. Eventually, he left the LSSP to play a pivotal role in establishing the United Left Front.

Vijeyanayake's political acumen earned him the position of opposition leader in the first Central Provincial Council established after the introduction of the provincial council system in 1988.

As a persistent advocate for the rule of law, judicial independence, and citizens' rights, he was a founding member and coordinator of the organization “Lawyers for Democracy,” leading prominent civil and democratic struggles.

After being sworn in as a lawyer in 1969, he championed the cause of marginalized groups from the onset of his career. Notably, he represented the young individuals accused in connection with the April 1971 insurrection, standing alongside senior lawyer S. Nadesan before the Criminal Justice Commission. He also spearheaded a historic legal battle in court to abolish an unjust water tax imposed on farmers by the Mahaweli Authority.

During his tenure as the chairman of the Public Representatives Committee for Constitutional Reform from 2015 to 2019, he prioritized gathering public opinions nationwide to submit a comprehensive constitutional reform report to the government.

Vijeyanayake remained a steadfast advocate for the abolition of the executive presidency and the affirmation of national unity. Throughout his life, he worked diligently to unify broad political and democratic forces, leaving a remarkable legacy that will be remembered by those who continue to pursue justice and equality in Sri Lanka.
