President Anura Kumara Disanayake Stresses Need for Genuine Transformation Beyond Political Power Change

Transforming a nation's society or economy cannot rely solely on a shift in political power, President Anura Kumara Disanayake emphasized. He asserted that an accurate ideological vision and a steadfast commitment to progress are vital for true change.

Delivering his remarks at the National Conference of the National Intellectual Organization in Colombo, the President pointed out that during the initial stages of his political career, his representation catered only to a limited segment of society. He recalled how certain elite and professional classes viewed his political endeavor with skepticism, creating barriers to open dialogue.

According to the President, the National Intellectual Organization played a crucial role in dismantling the distance, suspicion, and division that existed among the various strata of society. He highlighted that it is through this collective effort that a key platform for unifying the people is being established. The achievement of a people's revolution capable of entirely reshaping the political landscape in 2024 will owe its success to the commitment of this public movement, which he believes merits respect from the scholarly community.

However, the President noted that merely gaining political power through electoral success is insignificant if it does not lead to authentic social and economic transformation. He clarified that such changes stem from the leadership and operational strategies established post-election.

"Power alone does not bring transformation. We must have a clear vision regarding the purposes for which we seek power and the responsibilities that accompany it. Effective leadership and consistent efforts are necessary for sustained progress. The National Intellectual Organization has emerged as a principal force supplying this momentum to the current government," the President stated further.
