ව්‍යාජ සමාජ මාධ්‍ය ගිණුම් උපයෝගී කරගනිමින් මෙරට විවිධ ජාතීන් සහ ආගමික ප්‍රජාවන් අතර නොසන්සුන්තාවන් හා ගැටුම්කාරී වාතාවරණයක් නිර්මාණය කිරීමට උත්සාහ දරන විවිධ තරාතිරම්වල පුද්ගලයන් විස්සකට ආසන්න පිරිසක් සම්බන්ධයෙන් අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සහ බුද්ධි අංශ එක්ව පුළුල් විමර්ශනයක් ආරම්භ කර ඇති බව මහජන ආරක්ෂක සහ පාර්ලිමේන්තු කටයුතු අමාත්‍ය ආනන්ද විජේපාල මහතා අනාවරණය කළේය.

මෙම අර්බුදකාරී තත්ත්වය කෙරෙහි රජයේ දැඩි අවධානය යොමුව ඇති බව පෙන්වා දුන් අමාත්‍යවරයා, ජාතිවාදී හා ආගම්වාදී වෛරය ව්‍යාප්ත කරන ඇතැම් සමාජ මාධ්‍ය ගිණුම් මෙරටින් බැහැරව විදේශයන්හි සිට මෙහෙයවනු ලබන බව සඳහන් කළේය. 

එවැනි ක්‍රියාවන්හි නිරත පුද්ගලයන් පිළිබඳ නිවැරදි තොරතුරු අනාවරණය කරගැනීම සඳහා අදාළ රටවල පිහිටි ශ්‍රී ලංකා තානාපති කාර්යාල මාර්ගයෙන් විශේෂ රාජ්‍යතාන්ත්‍රික හා ආරක්ෂක වැඩපිළිවෙළක් දැනටමත් අරඹා ඇති බව ද හෙතෙම ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

එමෙන්ම, මෙලෙස වෛරී ප්‍රකාශ පතුරුවන ඇතැම් පුද්ගලයන් ඇතැම් දේශපාලනඥයන්ගේ සෘජු උසිගැන්වීම් සහ අනුග්‍රහය මත මෙම කඩාකප්පල්කාරී ක්‍රියාවන්හි නිරත වන බවට පොලිසිය විසින් තොරතුරු අනාවරණය කරගෙන ඇතැයි ද අමාත්‍යවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

පසුගිය වසර දහයක කාලසීමාව තුළ වෛරී ප්‍රකාශ පැතිරවීම සම්බන්ධයෙන් අපරාධ පරීක්ෂණ දෙපාර්තමේන්තුව සහ ත්‍රස්ත විමර්ශන කොට්ඨාසය  වෙත පැමිණිලි 6ක් ලැබී ඒ පිළිබඳ විමර්ශන පවත්වා ඇති බව ද ඒ මහතා සිහිපත් කළේය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාව තුළ සමාජ මාධ්‍ය පරිශීලනය ශීඝ්‍රයෙන් ඉහළ යාමත් සමඟ, මෙරට මෙන්ම විදෙස්ගතව සිටින ඇතැම් කණ්ඩායම් ජනකොටස් අතර ජාතිවාදී හා ආගම්වාදී ගිනිදැල් ඇවිලවීම සඳහා සංවිධානාත්මකව මෙවැනි ව්‍යාජ ගිණුම් සකස් කරමින් සිටින බව අමාත්‍ය විජේපාල මහතා පෙන්වා දුන්නේය. 

මෙවැනි සිදුවීම් විමර්ශනය කිරීමේදී නිල පැමිණිලි නොලැබීම, විදේශ රටවල සිට ක්‍රියාත්මක වීම සහ පවතින නීතිමය රාමුවේ සීමාවන් වැනි ප්‍රායෝගික බාධා රැසකට මුහුණ දීමට විමර්ශන නිලධාරීන්ට සිදුව ඇති බව ද ඔහු පැවසීය.

කෙසේ වෙතත්, කුමන බාධා පැවතිය ද අදාළ ව්‍යාජ ගිණුම් සහ පිටු පිටුපස සිටින සැබෑ පුද්ගලයන් නීතියේ රැහැනට හසුකර ගැනීම සඳහා පොලිසිය අඛණ්ඩව දැඩි ක්‍රියාමාර්ග ගනිමින් සිටින බව අමාත්‍යවරයා වැඩිදුරටත් අවධාරණය කළේය.

Government Launches Investigations into Suspected Social Media Incitement in Sri Lanka

In response to rising tensions among various ethnic and religious communities, the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and intelligence agencies have initiated extensive investigations into approximately twenty individuals allegedly using fraudulent social media accounts to incite discord. This important revelation came from Minister of Public Safety and Parliamentary Affairs, Ananda Vijepala.

The Minister indicated that the government has directed its attention towards the troubling situation, highlighting that certain social media accounts propagating ethnic and religious animosity are being operated from abroad. He stated that these accounts are contributing to a climate of unrest within the country.

To uncover accurate information about the individuals involved in such activities, a special operational and security plan has already been established through Sri Lankan diplomatic missions located in the relevant countries, he disclosed.

Moreover, he pointed out that some of the individuals spreading hateful rhetoric are allegedly connected to specific political figures who directly endorse and support their divisive actions. This was corroborated by information provided by the police.

Over the past decade, the CID and the Terrorism Investigation Division have received six complaints regarding the dissemination of extremist statements, and investigations into those matters are currently ongoing, the Minister noted.

As social media usage in Sri Lanka rapidly increases, Vijepala emphasized that some groups, both locally and among expatriates, are systematically creating such fake accounts to fan the flames of ethnic and religious discord.

He also acknowledged various practical challenges faced by investigators, including the absence of official complaints, operational activities from foreign jurisdictions, and limitations imposed by the existing legal framework.

Nevertheless, he reassured that despite any obstacles, law enforcement is relentlessly pursuing measures to bring the perpetrators behind these fraudulent accounts and the individuals supporting them to justice.
