Police Urges Caution on Online Instant Loans Amid Rising Concerns

The Sri Lankan Police's Media Division has issued a strong appeal to the public to approach the acquisition of online instant loans through mobile apps with heightened caution and clear understanding of the associated terms and conditions.

Reports indicate that borrowers are facing severe distress and challenges due to exorbitant interest rates on these loans. In response, the Financial Crimes Investigation Division has initiated a special inquiry to examine these alarming trends.

Preliminary findings from the ongoing investigation reveal that many individuals are applying for loans without fully comprehending the legal terms set forth by the lending institutions. This lack of understanding often leads to serious financial complications.

The police emphasize that the repayment methods and all potential risks associated with using these apps are explicitly outlined in the agreements provided by the lenders, which the borrowers are required to understand and accept.

To mitigate such issues, the authorities urge individuals to exercise careful consideration and thorough understanding when obtaining funds through online methods. They stress that if one must seek a loan online, it is crucial to read and fully grasp all conditions from the relevant company before proceeding.

The Sri Lanka Police also advises the public on the importance of taking necessary precautions to avoid potential financial losses and mental stress that could arise from these transactions.
