New ‘Smart Print Initiative’ Aims to Modernize Government Printing Services

The government has secured cabinet approval to implement the ‘Smart Print Initiative,’ a strategic program aimed at transforming the Department of Government Printing into a cutting-edge facility equipped with advanced security printing technologies. This initiative will be conducted under a public-private partnership model.

This decision follows a proposal made by the Prime Minister, who serves as the Minister of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education.

Established in 1968, the Department of Government Printing operates as the principal state entity responsible for printing school textbooks, government publications, and various documents for public institutions.

While the department has consistently reported financial profits in recent years, it faces significant challenges regarding production efficiency and market competitiveness due to aging machinery and outdated printing technologies.

In light of these challenges, there is an urgent need to reorganize the business model and technological capabilities of the department to ensure its long-term sustainability.

To address this, the initiative plans to leverage an integrated partnership framework between the public and private sectors to enhance and diversify its operations.
