වසරකට රුපියල් බිලියන 03කට ආසන්න පාඩුවක් ලබන මත්තල රාජපක්ෂ ජාත්‍යන්තර ගුවන්තොටුපළ කඩිනමින් ප්‍රතිව්‍යුහගත කර, ලබන වසර ඇතුළත ලාභ ලබන රාජ්‍ය වත්කමක් බවට පත්කිරීමේ විශේෂ වැඩපිළිවෙළක් රජය විසින් ආරම්භ කර ඇත.
වරාය සහ සිවිල් ගුවන් සේවා නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍ය ජනිත රුවන් කොඩිතුවක්කු මහතා ප්‍රකාශ කරන්නේ ගුවන්තොටුපළේ සංවර්ධන කටයුතු වෙනුවෙන් ඉදිරිපත්වූ සමාගම් අතරින් සමාගම් 17ක් මේ වන විටත් තෝරාගෙන අවසන් බවය.
මත්තල ගුවන්තොටුපළ සංවර්ධනය කිරීම සඳහා ආයෝජනය කිරීමට කැමැත්ත පළ කරමින් දේශීය හා විදේශීය සමාගම් 19ක් විසින් අභිලාෂය පළකිරීමේ පත්‍ර ඉදිරිපත් කර තිබිණි. ඉන් සුදුසුකම් සපුරාලූ සමාගම් 17 වෙතින් ඉදිරියේදී විධිමත් ව්‍යාපෘති යෝජනා කැඳවීමට පියවර ගන්නා බව නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍යවරයා සඳහන් කරයි.
එම යෝජනා විධිමත් ඇගයීමකට ලක් කිරීමෙන් අනතුරුව තෝරාගනු ලබන වඩාත්ම යෝග්‍ය සමාගම සමඟ එක්ව ඉදිරි මෙහෙයුම් කටයුතු සිදු කිරීමට නියමිතය. මෙහිදී ගුවන්තොටුපළේ පූර්ණ රාජ්‍ය හිමිකාරීත්වය අඛණ්ඩව සුරක්ෂිත වන පරිදි, රාජ්‍ය-පෞද්ගලික හවුල්කාරීත්ව (PPP) ආකෘතියක් යටතේ මත්තල ගුවන්තොටුපළේ මෙහෙයුම් කටයුතු පැවරීම සිදු වන බවද නියෝජ්‍ය අමාත්‍යවරයා පවසයි.
කොඩිතුවක්කු මහතා වැඩිදුරටත් පෙන්වා දෙන්නේ, මත්තල ගුවන්තොටුපළ ආරම්භ කළ දා සිට මේ දක්වා වාර්තා කර ඇති සමස්ත සමුච්චිත අලාභය රුපියල් බිලියන 60 (රුපියල් කෝටි 6,000) ඉක්මවන බවයි.
තවද, මේ වන විට එම ගුවන්තොටුපළ තුළ සතියකට ක්‍රියාත්මක වන්නේ ගුවන් ගමන්වාර 11ක් වැනි ඉතා සීමිත සංඛ්‍යාවක් පමණක් බවද ඔහු අනාවරණය කරයි.
Government Launches Restructuring Plan for Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport
In a bid to transform the loss-making Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport into a profitable state asset within the next year, the government has initiated a special restructuring program. This initiative comes as the airport has been facing an annual financial deficit of approximately 3 billion rupees.
Deputy Minister of Ports and Civil Aviation, Jannith Ruwan Kodithuwakku, announced that the selection process for development projects has progressed, with 17 companies shortlisted from the proposals submitted for the airport's enhancement efforts.
A total of 19 local and foreign firms expressed interest in investing in the airport's development by submitting project proposals. From these, the 17 qualified firms will soon be invited to present formal project proposals, according to the Deputy Minister.
Following a thorough evaluation of these proposals, the most suitable company will be selected to collaborate on future operations. The Deputy Minister assured that the full state ownership of the airport would be maintained while operations would be handed over under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Furthermore, Kodithuwakku revealed that the cumulative losses reported since the airport's inception have exceeded 60 billion rupees (6,000 crores). He added that only a limited number of flights—approximately 11—are currently operating weekly at the airport.
