Ministry Calls for Action Against Exploitation of School Children in Protests
The Ministry of Women and Child Affairs has lodged complaints with the National Child Protection Authority and the Police Child and Women’s Bureau regarding incidents where schoolchildren, dressed in uniforms, were used to stage protests. The ministry highlighted concerns over the manipulation of these children for media broadcasts across social platforms.
The media secretary of the ministry emphasized that videos and audio clips obtained from the children during these protests have been extensively shared by various media organizations, along with social media activists.
It has been noted that political agendas are being inappropriately advanced by exploiting children's rights to freedom of expression. There are reports indicating that certain journalists have incited emotional responses from the children to garner statements.
The ministry underscored the necessity of shielding schoolchildren dressed in uniforms from harsh media scrutiny and undue pressure, highlighting the importance of safeguarding their welfare.
Moreover, the ministry has urged all print, electronic media outlets, and social media operators to refrain from disseminating photographs, videos, or audio recordings that might compromise the children’s privacy and identity.
