Colombo Set to Test Advanced Passenger Drone Technology

In a significant step toward introducing modern aerial transport technology, test flights of passenger drones are currently taking place within the Colombo harbor city area. These trials mark the early stages of implementing electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) technology in Sri Lanka.

The official demonstration flight is scheduled for November 11, with participation from EHang Holdings, a leading Chinese company specializing in eVTOL technology.

The passenger drone demonstrated during these tests can carry two individuals, operating exclusively within the airport airspace. Observers will have the opportunity to witness its capabilities firsthand as it makes test flights.

This project aims to explore the potential of unmanned passenger drones to enhance urban mobility, improve tourist industries, and streamline the transport of goods and supplies.

The upcoming demonstration on November 11 is expected to showcase how this technology can facilitate urban air travel, ultimately providing a novel experience for both local and international tourists.
