ලබන වසරේදී එම පාඩුව ඩොලර් බිලියන 32 දක්වා ඉහළ යනු ඇතැයි අපේක්ෂා කෙරේ. ඉදිරි වසර දෙකක කාලය තුළ ගොවීන්ට කිසිදු ලාභයක් ලැබීමට නොහැකි වනු ඇති බවටද අනාවැකි පළ වී තිබේ.

This turmoil can be traced back to a February attack on Iran, which prompted Tehran to disrupt trade routes through the Strait of Hormuz. This key maritime passage carries about one-fifth of the world's energy supply, and its blockage has significantly driven up energy costs across the United States.

Data from the U.S. Energy Information Administration reveals that the price of diesel fuel has surged from $3.81 per gallon before the outbreak of hostilities to $5.45 currently. Similarly, the cost of fertilizer has skyrocketed, with reports indicating that prices per ton have surpassed $900, up from $470 just a decade ago.

Economists attending an American Agricultural Bureau meeting caution that without government intervention, crop growers could incur a staggering loss of $31 billion this year alone. Projections for the upcoming year suggest this figure could escalate to $32 billion, with no profits anticipated for farmers over the next two years.

The current severe drought, record high temperatures, and ongoing trade disputes with China have compounded the problems by driving down demand for U.S. soybean exports, further intensifying this crisis.

As American farmers grapple with these challenges, experts warn that their plight could significantly impact the upcoming elections, highlighting the precarious state of agriculture in the nation.
