 ඝාතනයට ලක්වූ ප්‍රවීණ මාධ්‍යවේදී ලසන්ත වික්‍රමතුංග මහතාට අධිකරණය හමුවේ සාධාරණයක් ඉටු කිරීමට නොහැකි වූයේ නිසි සාක්ෂි නොමැතිකම නිසා වුවද, එම ඝාතනය සිදුකළේ කවුරුන්ද යන්න සහ ඒ පිටුපස සිටියේ කවුරුන්ද යන්න දන්නා පිරිස් මැනවින් දන්නා බව අල්ලස් හෝ දූෂණ චෝදනා විමර්ශන කොමිෂන් සභාවේ අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල්, හිටපු මහාධිකරණ විනිසුරු රංග දිසානායක මහතා පවසයි.

කොළඹදී පැවති උත්සව සභාවක් අමතමින් ඒ මහතා මේ බව ප්‍රකාශ කළේය.

ලසන්ත වික්‍රමතුංග මහතා ඝාතනය කිරීමට සැබෑ හේතුව වූයේ ඔහු මෙරට පාලකයන් ප්‍රමුඛ බලවතුන්ගේ අක්‍රමිකතා, වංචා සහ මහා පරිමාණ දූෂණයන්ට එරෙහිව නිර්භයව තම පෑන මෙහෙයවීම බව අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල්වරයා මෙහිදී පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

ඝාතකයන් කවුරුන්ද යන්න අධිකරණමය වශයෙන් නිශ්චිතව තහවුරු කර නොතිබුණ ද, ඔහු ඝාතනය වීමට බලපෑ එම දූෂණ විරෝධී හේතුව ඉතා පැහැදිලිව තහවුරු වී ඇති බව හෙතෙම සඳහන් කළේය.

එදා ලසන්ත වික්‍රමතුංග වැනි අතළොස්සක් වූ පිරිසක් රාජ්‍ය දූෂණයට එරෙහිව හඬ නගද්දී, දසදහස් සංඛ්‍යාත ජනතාව ඇස් කන් පියාගෙන නිහඬව සිටි බව සිහිපත් කළ රංග දිසානායක මහතා, එම නොසැලකිලිමත්භාවයේ ඛේදජනක ප්‍රතිඵලය වසර ගණනාවකට පසු මුළු රටටම අත්විඳින්නට සිදුවූ බව පැවසීය.

"එදා දූෂණයට සහ වංචාවට විරුද්ධ නොවී නිහඬව හිටපු දහස් සංඛ්‍යාත මිනිස්සුන්ට වසර ගණනාවකට පස්සේ ඉන්ධන සහ ගෑස් පෝලිම්වල මැරිලා වැටෙන්න සිදුවුණා. මේ රට ආර්ථික ප්‍රපාතයකට ඇද වැටෙන්න ප්‍රධානතම හේතුව දූෂණයයි. ඇතැම් ගොනු අස්ථානගත වී තිබුණත්, අල්ලස් හෝ දූෂණ විමර්ශන කොමිෂන් සභාව සතු ලිපිගොනු පරීක්ෂා කරන විට මේ රටේ සිදුවූ විනාශය පැහැදිලිව පෙනෙනවා. එපමණක් නොවෙයි, ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ආර්ථිකය බිඳවැටීමට බලය හෙබවූ නිශ්චිත පිරිසක් වගකිවයුතු බව ශ්‍රේෂ්ඨාධිකරණය පවා නම් සහිතව තීන්දු කර තිබෙනවා," යනුවෙන් ඔහු සඳහන් කළේය.

විනිසුරුවරයෙකු ලෙස තමන් ලද අත්දැකීම් විස්තර කරමින් ඒ මහතා කියා සිටියේ, සාපරාධී නීති පද්ධතියක් තුළ විත්තිකරුවෙකුට එරෙහි චෝදනා සාධාරණ සැකයකින් තොරව ඔප්පු කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය සාක්ෂි සම්පූර්ණ විය යුතු බවයි. ලසන්ත වික්‍රමතුංග ඝාතනය සම්බන්ධයෙන් අධිකරණය ඉදිරියේ නීතිමය යුක්තිය ඉටු නොවූයේ එම අපරාධය ඔප්පු කිරීමට අවශ්‍ය ප්‍රමාණවත් සාක්ෂි ඉදිරිපත් නොවීම නිසා බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

කෙසේ වෙතත්, යුක්තිය යනු අධිකරණ ශාලාවක් තුළ පමණක් සිදුවන දෙයක් නොවන බව අවධාරණය කළ අධ්‍යක්ෂ ජනරාල්වරයා, ලසන්ත ඝාතනය කළ අය මෙන්ම එම ම්ලේච්ඡ ක්‍රියාව පිළිබඳ සියලු තොරතුරු දැනගෙනත් නිහඬව සිටින පාර්ශ්වයන් සිය මරණ මංචකයේදී හෝ තමන් ලසන්ත වෙනුවෙන් සාධාරණයක් ඉටු නොකළ බවට වන හෘද සාක්ෂියේ වරදකාරී හැඟීමට මුහුණ දෙනු ඇති බව වැඩිදුරටත් කියා සිටියේය.

Former Judge Highlights Ongoing Quest for Justice in Journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge's Assassination

Ranga Dishanayake, the Director General of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption, has asserted that while the courts were unable to deliver justice for the assassination of prominent journalist Lasantha Wickrematunge due to a lack of sufficient evidence, many individuals are acutely aware of who was behind the crime and the motives that fueled it.

Speaking at an event in Colombo, Dishanayake emphasized that Wickrematunge's murder was rooted in his fearless journalism, which challenged the misdeeds and grand-scale corruption of powerful political figures in the country.

Although the identity of the assassins has not been definitively confirmed in a legal context, Dishanayake pointed out that the underlying corrupt motives leading to Wickrematunge's assassination have been clearly established. He reminisced about the chilling silence that prevailed as many citizens stood by without protest against state corruption during the time of Wickrematunge's activism, and expressed that the consequences of this complacency have left a lasting impact on the nation.

"Those who remained silent against corruption and fraud countless years ago have found themselves, years later, struggling at gas stations. The primary cause of our economic decline is corruption. While some cases have been buried, documents held by the Bribery Commission clearly outline the destruction caused in this country. Furthermore, the Supreme Court has explicitly identified the specific individuals responsible for the forces that dismantled Sri Lanka’s economy," he stated.

Reflecting on his experiences as a judge, Dishanayake reiterated that in a criminal justice system, it is imperative for prosecutors to present sufficient and credible evidence free from reasonable doubt. He elaborated that the failure to achieve legal justice in the Wickrematunge case was primarily due to inadequate evidence presented to prove the crime.

However, the Director General stressed that justice is not solely a courtroom affair. He cautioned that those aware of the assassination, as well as the criminals involved, may confront their own moral dilemmas for not seeking justice for Wickrematunge, ultimately reflecting on their own complicity during their final moments.
