සෞදි අරාබියේදී මරණ දඬුවමට මුහුණ දී සිටින ශ්‍රී ලාංකික තරුණයකු වන සිවරාසා අනෝජන්ට සෞදි රජුගේ මැදිහත්වීම මත ර සමාව ලබා ගැනීමේ නෛතික අවකාශයක් පවතින බව හිටපු විදේශ රැකියා අමාත්‍ය ඩිලාන් පෙරේරා මහතා පවසයි.

එහිදී අදහස් දැක්වූ හිටපු අමාත්‍යවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේ, ෂරියා නීතිය ක්‍රියාත්මක වන සෞදි අරාබිය තුළ මිනීමැරුම් චෝදනාවකට වරදකරු වී මරණ දඬුවම නියම වූ අයකුට සෘජුව සමාව ප්‍රදානය කිරීමේ හැකියාවක් එරට රජුට පවා නොමැති බවයි.

එවැනි අවස්ථාවක සමාව ලබා දීමට නම් 'බ්ලඩ් මනී' හෙවත් ලේ වන්දි ලබා දීම හෝ වින්දිත පාර්ශ්වයේ පවුලේ ඥාතීන්ගේ පූර්ණ කැමැත්ත හිමි විය යුතු බව හෙතෙම සිහිපත් කළේය.

කෙසේ වෙතත්, අනෝජන්ට එරෙහිව එල්ල වී ඇත්තේ මිනීමැරුම් චෝදනාවක් නොවන බව පැහැදිලි කළ ඩිලාන් පෙරේරා මහතා, ඔහුට එරෙහි චෝදනාව ඉස්ලාම් ධර්මයට අපහාස කිරීම බව සඳහන් කළේය.

 මරණ දඬුවමට ලක්වූ රිසානා නෆීක්ගේ සිදුවීමේදී මෙන් මෙහිදී මිනිස් ඝාතනයක් සිදුව නොමැති බැවින්, අනෝජන් වෙනුවෙන් සමාව ප්‍රදානය කිරීමේ පූර්ණ බලය හා හැකියාව සෞදි රජතුමා සතුව පවතින බව ඔහු පෙන්වා දුන්නේය.

Former Minister of Foreign Employment, Dilan Perera, has revealed that there remains a possibility for a royal pardon for Sivaarasa Anojan, a Sri Lankan youth currently facing the death penalty in Saudi Arabia.

Speaking at a media conference, Perera emphasized the challenging legal landscape in Saudi Arabia, where the implementation of Sharia law complicates the process of granting mercy. He pointed out that even the king does not have the authority to directly pardon someone convicted of murder under this legal framework.

To grant forgiveness in such cases, he noted, it is typically required that either a "blood money" compensation is paid to the victim's family or that there is full consent from the relatives of the deceased.

However, Perera clarified that the charges against Anojan are not related to murder but rather involve alleged insults against Islam. This distinction is crucial, as it highlights that the situation is not a simple case of homicide, potentially granting the Saudi king the full discretion to issue a pardon.

He drew a parallel to the case of Rizana Nafeek, where no homicide was involved, suggesting that similar considerations could apply in Anojan's situation, reinforcing the king's ability to afford clemency.

Perera also cautioned that any appeal concerning this case must be conducted with utmost diligence. He warned that poorly executed appeals could risk increasing the severity of the punishment rather than mitigating it. Emphasizing the need for proper legal advice and a strategic diplomatic approach, he reiterated that seeking a royal pardon through appropriate channels in Saudi Arabia would be the most effective course of action.
