ග්‍රෙගර් වැවේ බෝට්ටු සීමා කරයි...

නුවරඑළිය ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ දැනට පවත්වාගෙන යන ඇතැම් බෝට්ටු සේවාව තුලින් සිදු වන අනතුරු බහුල නිසා එම බෝට්ටු සේවාව මාස 2ක් ඇතුලත විධිමත් ආකාරයෙන් පවත්වාගෙන යැමට අවශ්‍ය පියවර ගන්නා ලෙස නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්‍රික් සම්බන්ධීකරණ කමිටුවේ සභාපති සහ නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්‍රික් පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී මංජුල සුරවීආරච්චි මහතා නුවරඑළිය නාගරික කොමසාරිස් ඉෂාන් විජයතිලක මහතා වෙත උපදෙස් දෙනු ලැබූහ.

නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්‍රික් සම්බන්ධීකරණ කමිටු රැස්වීම එම කමිටුවේ සභාපති නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්‍රික් පාර්ලිමේන්තු මන්ත්‍රී මංජුල සුරවීආරච්චි මහතාගේ ප්‍රධානත්වයෙන් මධ්‍යම පළාත් ආණ්ඩුකාරවර විශ්‍රාමික ප්‍රජා විශේෂඥ වෛද්‍ය හර්ෂ සුරංග ප්‍රනාන්දු මහතා සහ නුවරඑළිය දිස්ත්‍රික් ලේකම් තුෂාරි තෙන්නකෝන් මහත්මියගේ සහභාගීත්වයෙන් පැවැත්විණ.

මෙහිදි දිස්ත්‍රික් සම්බන්ධිකරණ කමිටුවේ සභාපතිවරයා නුවරඑළිය නගර සභාවේ නාගරික කොමසාරිස්වරයාගෙන් විමසා සිටියේ දැනට නුවරඑළිය ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ පවත්වාගෙන යන බෝට්ටු කොපමණ ප්‍රමාණයක් තිබෙද යන්න පිලිබදවයි. 

එහිදි බෝට්ටු 129ක් සාමාන්‍ය බෝට්ටු ලෙසත් ජේට්ස්කි බෝට්ටු 21ක්ද ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ ධාවනය කරවන බවද  නාගරික කොමසාරිස්වරයා පැවසීය.

ඉන් ඇතැම් බෝට්ටු සේවාවන් ලියාපදිංචි නොවී රක්ෂණ සහතිකයක් පවා නොමැතිව ධාවනය කරවන බවට මෙම රැස්වීමේදි හෙළිදරව් වූ අතර, මින් ඉදිරියට අශ්වබල 85ට වඩා ධාරිතාවයකින් යුත් බෝට්ටු ධාවනයෙන් ඉවත් කිරිමටත්, අශ්වබල 85ට වඩා බෝට්ටු ධාවනය තුලින් ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ පරිසර හානියක්ද සිදු වන බවයි දිස්ත්‍රික් සංවර්ධන කමිටුවේ සභාපතිවරයා පෙන්වා දුන්නේ.

දිස්ත්‍රික් සංවර්ධන කමිටු රැස්වීමට සහභාගි වූ රාජ්‍ය නිළධාරින් කිහිප දෙනෙකුම කියා සිටියේ, ග්‍රෙගරිවැව කිලෝමීටර් 4 ½ක වපසරියකින් යුතු බවත්, එම වැවේ සුන්දරත්වය නරඹමින් වැව වටේ බෝට්ටු සවාරියක් යැමට අවසර ලබා දිම තුලින් ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ බෝට්ටු සවාරි යන සංචාරකයන්ගේ ආරක්ෂාව මෙන්ම ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ පරසරයද ආරක්ෂාවන බවයි.

ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ බෝට්ටු සේවය පවත්වාගෙන යෑමට ලබා දී ඇති නිර්ණායකවලට පටහැනිව බෝට්ටු සේවාවන් පවත්වාගෙන යන බවට නාවික හමුදාවෙන්ද තමන් වෙත පවසා ඇති බවයි නාගරික කොමසාරිස්වරයා මෙම රැස්විමේදි කියා සිටියේ.

ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ විනෝදාස්වාදය සදහා පවත්වාගෙන යන බෝට්ටු සේවාව සහ අනෙකුත් සේවාවන් තුලින් නුවරඑළිය මහ නගර සභාවට වාර්ශිකව ලැබෙන ආදායම ඉතා අඩු බවත්, එම ආදායම් තත්වය වැඩි කිරිමට අවශ්‍ය පියවර ගන්නා ලෙසද නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්‍රික් සම්බන්ධීකරණ කමිටුවේ සභාපතිවරයා විසින් නුවරඑළිය නගර සභාවේ නාගරික කොමසාරිස්වරයාට උපදෙස් ලබා දෙන ලදි.

ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ අපජල කළමණාකරණය සහ පිරිසිදු පානීය ජලය ලබා දීමේ ව්‍යාපෘතිය සදහා රජය මගින්  ප්‍රතිපාදන වෙන් කර ඇති නිසා ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ පාලනය සහ නඩත්තු කටයුතු වාරි මාර්ග දෙපාර්තමේන්තුවට භාර දීමටත්, ග්‍රෙගරිවැවේ ආදායම් උත්පාදනය සහ ග්‍රෙගරිවැව අවට පරිසරය අලංකාරව පවත්වාගෙන යෑම නුවරඑලිය මහ නගර සභාවටත්, බලය පැවරෙන සේ දෙපාර්ශවයම සාකච්ඡා කර එකගතාවයකට පැමිණ ගිවිසුමකට දින වකවානු යොදා ගනිමින් එළබෙන ලෙස නුවරඑලිය දිස්ත්‍රික් සම්බන්ධීකරණ කමිටුවේ සභාපතිවරයා නුවරඑළිය නගර සභාවේ නාගරික කොමසාරිස්වරයාට උපදෙස් ලබා දෙනු ලැබූවා.

Urgent Measures Proposed to Regulate Boat Services at Gregory's Lake

In light of increasing accidents associated with boat services at Gregory's Lake in Nuwara Eliya, officials are calling for immediate action to ensure safety. Manjula Surawirachchi, the Chairman of the Nuwara Eliya District Coordination Committee and Member of Parliament, has instructed the Urban Commissioner, Ishaan Vijayatilake, to implement necessary measures within the next two months.

The Nuwara Eliya District Coordination Committee convened under the leadership of Surawirachchi, with key participation from retired Public Health Specialist Dr. Harsha Suranga Pranandu and District Secretary Tushari Thenakoon.

During the meeting, Surawirachchi inquired about the current number of boats operating on Gregory's Lake. The Urban Commissioner reported that there are currently 129 regular boats and 21 jet skis navigating the waters.

Concerns were raised regarding some unregistered boat operators providing services without insurance coverage. This issue was flagged as a major risk, prompting discussions about removing boats with capacities exceeding 85 horsepower, which are contributing to environmental damage in the lake.

State officials present emphasized that Gregory's Lake spans approximately 4.5 kilometers and stressed the importance of ensuring safety for tourists engaging in boat rides around the lake's scenic surroundings.

The Urban Commissioner noted that the Navy has conveyed their concerns about the adherence to safety protocols in managing the boat services at Gregory's Lake.

Furthermore, the revenue generated from the boat services and other recreational activities is significantly low, leading the Chairman of the District Coordination Committee to urge the Urban Commissioner to explore strategies aimed at enhancing income for the Nuwara Eliya Municipal Council.

With government allocations already in place for projects concerning wastewater management and the provision of clean drinking water at Gregory's Lake, discussions are underway to entrust maintenance and control of the lake to the Department of Water Supply and Drainage. Both parties are expected to negotiate an agreement that addresses income generation and environmental beautification around the lake.
